I don't necessarily feel like this song is just about "break ups" I find it to be a beautiful song that could also translate to someone who had passed away. The first time I heard this song, was on September 11th this year. All I could think about was how many people wished that their loved ones would walk through the door and I related my own loss with that. This song is much deeper than break ups to me. It would be a lovely tribute song if someone would use it in a video to honor those who have passed away.

This is such a haunting song, but has real, true meaning. I have lost so many love ones and their memories will always be with me, the fun years as a child, hard work on a dairy farm, but a wholesome life with lots of love. Now at 76, it will soon be my time to become nothing more but a memory, a good memory I hope. I find myself thinking about all the many people I have met and remember so fondly in my heart, the list is endless because of my travels. God has blessed me, even if I didn't deserved it, he blessed me! To all those out there that I once knew, you are in my memories and forever in my heart.

Songs can always be interpreted any way you feel they fit. A lot of people have said they always felt the original version of this song was entirely just about a breakup but then Ellie's version made them think beyond that for things such as the passing away of a loved one. Songs can be interpreted in more than just one way which is what makes music so beautiful and versatile!

yes, its one of the worst ways to lose someone. My grandma was really religious and she wouldn't take any of her pain medication they found it in her bed after she passed.
