With Ellie Goulding I can definitely understand everything she is saying (I'm British) because she's quite well spoken. But occasionally I miss certain words in say Grime Music or maybe Indie Electro like Everything Everything first time round. Generally i'd say we can understand accents pretty well yes. But then we've had more experience to it. In opposition to this, i've no idea what, for example, the Kings of Leon are saying half the time. Where as you might not even notice a problem.

This is not meant to be disrespectful; serious question. Do British people listen to music from British artists and understand every word? I can never understand songs from British artists and I want to know if it is just me. Is it the accent? Frustrating, I love a lot of artists that I can barely understand.
