I think the only thing that could have saved Joel from Abby was if Ellie were to call Joel dad. That might have clicked with Abby because she felt guilt right after doing Joel in. For the longest time I really held a grudge for Abby but I understand why she did it, it is just a really fucked up situation without right or wrong

But think about it this way; Joel did Abby so wrong I think in that moment even if Ellie had to beg in the name of her father Abby would of still done it. If you look back at the flashback after Jerry’s death, the hesitation Abby has to kill Joel is insane but she has so much rage built up that she thinks that by her killing him it will give her closure, which it doesn’t but in this moment she doesn’t care who’s in her way she’ll do anything to get her vengeance. Plus she assumed Ellie was someone that Joel really cared about but it was messed up that she made Ellie watch the torture. No one was in the right they were both wrong for their actions.
