With a transatlantic cruising range and a decent turn of speed the Elling E6 is one of the most versatile boats you can buy. Dave Marsh puts it to the test in The Netherlands.
Price as tested: €1.65million

I love this classic styles, but I don't know how I feel about the space design. Actually, I don't know because you guys didn't bother to really show us much. Where is the dining area? Is the galley designed for extended use? How much storage space does each cabin have? Any washing machines on board? What's the salon look like? No offense, but show us the boat.

When you say classic style you mean a boat that is meant to be used rather than spend it's time in a marina in the South of France like a floating hotel!

gerard haubert It’s super easy - the „cupboards“ on the starboard side of the galley are actually the hatches which, if removed, give you direct access to both the main and, as far as I understand, the redundancy engine.

gerard haubert because its probably a maintenence nightmare :) I guess its main entrance is trough upper salon hatch,and seeing the plans its very tight compartment anyway.Another educated guess is that there is possibility for stairs removal and access also from there... but whatever is true,full walk around engine is not there... so there you go

Guys 'The Boat Show' on KZbin makes this kind of review actually interesting to watch this is turd boring to watch ~ and 720p really cant you afford real HD 1020p video ~ kinda feel sorry for the Elling E6 deserves better than this

There are quiet a lot of passage motor yachts with only one engine and they all have proven it works. I fairly enough stick to my SY but I’m getting older and the work is getting harder so I’m eying with a nice MY than could bring me over the Atlantic in a comfortable manner. The E6 would be a candidate, more than a Nordhavn (looking too much like a fish trawler) or Kadey-Krogen (looking a wee bit better than Nordhavn) but still not my style. The E6 turns itself back up (tested) so I think it might be a good choice

You say they're in the "Nordhavn breed"...I hope they don't come with the issues Aurora had when she was delivered fresh from the factory. I would really like to see a version with a pair of ~450hp IPS drives instead of the main and wing engine layout.
@paulnorman8274
@paulnorman8274 2 жыл бұрын
You need, or at least very much want, a prop and a rudder for going displacement speeds in rough water. Semidisplacement hulls like the Elling, are already sacrificing rear lateral-plane compared to deeper displacement gulls, even with their rudders ands keg. At displacement speeds, IPS is also much less efficient than straight shaft. There's a god bit of drag, compared with a straight shaft. And, for out-of-the-way long term cruising, a prop with a skeg protecting it, rather than pods with the prop at the leading edge, is less likely to suffer damage. IPS is really a planing boat drive. Or even a planing-boat-used-in-tight-and-crowded-environments drive (sterndrives, not to mention surface drives, have advantages once out in the open.) As for "issues": Elling has enormously long model runs. Rarely (more like almost never....) introduces new boats. Nor change existing ones.. They're as conservative as Toyota. And are very (to some annoyingly so) apprehensive about allowing any customisations which could conceivably be even the least bit "risky." While the Dutch marine industry, is already near universally capable of almost guaranteeing mature-Hallberg-Rassy-designs-like initial quality ad freedom from "issues," even on fully custom one-off boats. Add the two together and, while nothing is guaranteed, it's hard to imagine a less risky bet, than this. You have to like it for what is is though. They'll just expect you to instead go get a one-off designed and built, if your wants deviate much at all, from what they are comfortable putting their name on.

It's primarily a semi displacement boat. Not a Beebe-style passage maker optimised for Pacific Crossings fist, all else a distant third. It will cross oceans, at sailboat speeds, but the expectation is that most of the usage will be more "normal" powerboat usage. If a boat is bought for constant ocean crossings, a proper, deeper (hence easier to fit an engine room) displacement hull is a much better option anyway. Hence, since there is already _very_ good access to every part of the engine and mechanicals despite not having a separate, full-beam, standing-headroom walk-around-engine-room-with-a-workbench-and-a-toolchest; priorities were instead put on using that space for more day-to-day (for normal usages of the boat) usable living quarters. It's not as if having to open a hatch or two once a day during a crossing, will result in your engine conking out mid Atlantic. Big engine rooms are nice. But so is room for other stuff. In a boat still compact enough to be manoeuvrable and affordable.

@seikibrian8641
@seikibrian8641 7 жыл бұрын
This has a "wing engine," AKA a "get home engine" in case of a main-engine failure, but the reality is that most ocean-going vessels of this size have only one main engine. The most-common cause of engine problems is fuel contamination, and that would cause problems with a second engine as well, unless you always ran them from separate tanks and filled the tanks at different locations. With multiple filters, fuel polishing systems, etc., there's no real reason to worry too much, but the wing engine is there for peace of mind.
