But it's in the same trajectory of Liv. It's at that moment that Elliot is triggered, takes his gun out. It's visibly voulnerable. Probably he realized that he was not able to take it anymore, because everytime Liv was in danger he was not lucid. So I really agree with you. Maybe that's what he wrote in the letter

Like I've been watching this love brew since 2000 and now that everything is coming to the surface I am blown away by how well done the writers are doing! 100% agree with what you say. It's crazy the chemistry they had since the first scene together. It's so natural that it is impossible not to get it. I really don't get why people would rather see Olivia with Barba or Fin, when obviously there is 0 chemistry. Btw I must say that afterall, even this 10 years departure was good for the charracters. I mean, it's turning out so right at the moment that i wonder if it wasn't planned already. The writers are amazing, not to talk about the actors. I hope Chris will get a prize for some of these scenes

Olivia and Cassidy was not an option. He is too boyish. + Olivia could imagine herself and Barba, "squabbling with you".

Most people don't understand why people leave the ones they love or send them away or drive them out. But almost every time it's because they can't do what they need to do if that person is there to see them do it. They can't be the monster they need to be in that moment because they might hurt the ones they care about the most. Elliot left because he loved Olivia. He left because he loved his wife. He left because he loved his children. He left because he couldn't be the man he knew he needed to be and keep all of them. His wife needed a husband to share the burden. His children needed a father to guide them into adulthood. Olivia just needed a lover. There was no choice at all at the end.
