It is truly art. Please do more pieces like this - I have watched you since your SYTYCD audition and this was very touching. I went through something like this and when I saw it, I was overwhelmed with emotion. This is the best dance/music + dance combo that I have ever seen in my life. I understood every part every little nuance of this dance I felt her innocence, I felt her pain, I felt his ambiguity, I felt her hope after he was soft with her, and then I felt his need to feel power when he stepped on her, I felt her give up, and finally I felt her come through even knowing that what happened with him would always be there. It was beautiful.

**~LYRICS~** Oooh, call off the dogs We found her in the woods That girl never stood a chance After that dark dance with the waves She waltzed away into the sea Baby take me with you please I don't know what I'd do if you'd leave Whoaaaaaaa... whoaaa. whoa Watch all the torches go out One at a time The world gets darker every night Cause as I see it all Without the lights. As a sex trafficking survivor out of Philly.... The mental illness that ensued since is the darkness that follows and consumes me still most days. This song feels like it was made to describe me. Always fight back. I only lived to tell the tale because I fought my way to freedom. Even with dark invisible chains only I see and feel today I continue to fight... And will continue to fight for, for all the souls whose fight is over already. TO ALL THOSE STILL CAPTIVE NEVER GIVE UP HOPE- ITS THE ONLY THING THEY CAN NOT TAKE FROM US. Thank you God for a second chance at life and for my son Chance ❤️🙏❤️‍🩹

I was obsessed with this song when I was still being trafficked by my abusers and came back to it today. I wanted to add to your message, for anyone who needs to hear it. I see you, I hear you, I believe you. Your voice matters. Your story matters. You matter. Don't let what happened keep you small because you're so much more than what they made you out to be. There are some things you can't get back, but there's so much more that you can. You're allowed to take up space in this world and make others see the pain that they turn a blind eye on, because you deserve to be seen. Don't stay in the dark just because it makes other people comfortable. Be loud, be powerful, tell your truth. Be the person you wanted others to be for you when you were trapped under cruelty. You never know what you can do until you try, and you never know how many people you can help if you don't give them the chance to hear your voice.

The most beautiful thing about this video, is that so many people can relate to it in different ways.. some feel it's about an abusive relationship, others feel it's about an internal struggle, whether it's with depression, anxiety, or repercussions of sexual abuse. It's the way we see darkness take over her and her struggle to find the light that triggers different emotions and memories in us.. This is truly a masterpiece! (Edit: Am I the only one who notices the way she moves the mirror around her body in the beginning.. It's like an indication that she feels *empty*, right before darkness takes over her..)

Fadoua Ouni I saw it as transparency, that she was so clean and pure that she had nothing to hide from the world, nothing that she felt guilty or ashamed of. And then this guilt of either addiction or abuse gave her something to hide, but that's just my opinion! I love seeing whatever one says!

I think, originally, the video is truly going for sexual abuse and domestic violence. If you read the description it's says "October is Domestic Violence Awareness month in the US - find out more here: www.ncadv.org/" so ye. I mean of course art can translated and seen in various ways but I think it's also important to know the maker's intentions while you make your own inferences as well.

It could also be that she focused her energies outward in the beginning. When she looks in the mirror after being covered in slime, all she can focus on is herself because of how damaged she feels.

This affects me on such a deep level. This is what an abusive codependent relationship looks like. It hits you by surprise, and, before you know it, you are so wrapped up in it that you start to lose sight of who you are. You can't recognize yourself any more, but, at the same time, something is not allowing you to let go. My heart goes out to anyone who is going through this or who has gone through it in the past

Just seeing some of the moves between the dancers took me back to traumatic events when I was in that specific movement the girl in this video was making. And you remember.. wow this wasn't normal.. Granted I was only 15 and him 11 years older when we met so I had no previous expierence of any sort. I feel like I am rambling sorry. But anyways, I wish you the best stay strong because trust me.. I can't tell you how much this relates to how I felt in a few past relationships. Insecure, and then some guy comes along and stains me, when I look at him I see me and the mark he is leaving (the black paint on her face) and then the whole time we are together the things he has said and done (the stains on the white sheets) is all around us and on my mind. He is controlling me, I feel like I'm trapped, he is completely using me for my body, there is no love. I finally cut him off and the things he did are drowning me (her covered in sheets) and I am more insecure than ever, and once I have finally gotten rid of him, he creeps back into my life, giving me no time to really heal.

BrittanyBeachBody It might not be as apparent or necessarily as devastating, but I've gone through it as a guy too. I love too easily and I fall for girls that manipulate that. I don't feel insecure so much as used, but it's similar I'd say. The thing you have to realize is that you are who you are. Those stains were left by him. They aren't yours. The girls that have used me and the guys that have used you...they're the monsters. I could become cynical and untrusting, but that's not who I am. I will continue to be the loving guy that I always have been, but I'll be smarter about who I give my heart to. There's someone out there that will appreciate you for who you are too. :)

I'm loving the beauty of the fact that every one is interpreting this video in different ways. They're comparing it to their struggles, and that's an amazingly magical thing. To me, this video represents a girl who used to feel like she had it all (beauty) because of what she was told, but was actually empty inside. She lets a man take a hold, and control her mentally. She struggles with leaving him because he makes her feel wanted; but she struggles with an internal fight. And as her light starts to go completely out, she finally starts to fight back. I've been depressed for lord knows how long. This video brought the hottest of tears to my eyes.

I interpret this video as two sides of ourselves at battle, the Angelic and the Inner Demon. The angelic battles the inner demon for control. Our demon may be necessary at times, it’s what allows us to be stern, stand up for ourselves, say what’s needed. But we can’t allow the inner demon to win and take full control. The angelic must balance the inner parts of ourselves.

In video you see the girl in the woods in the beginning with a white dress and being clean, when she saw the guy in ink creep up she started running away, eventually he got his hands on her and covered her in ink and controlled her, when she saw her reflection of what he did to her she fell to the ground and couldn't believe what she saw. Then we see them with these shirts that they start to tangle themselves and in the background you can see the white sheets hanging in the beginning are now stained as well. But notice how when they dance at one point it looks like she started to kick and fling and look desperate as if she was fighting him off but then he chokes her and holds her down. Throughout that dance we see him keep putting her on the floor and even putting his foot on her to keep her down. Then we see her being thrown in bed and the guy coming in and unbuttoning his pants and he basically had sex with her. In the end you see she's in the woods again and she's still covered in ink and the white stained sheets wrap around her and the guy appears again. The woods represent her sanctuary/her temple/home, where she was free to run and be free and notice how she was alone there because at that point it was still just her private space, "that girl never stood a chance after that dark dance with the waves" the guy covered in ink represent the bad in her life but he also quite literally represented a bad man in her life who invaded her "home", she had a dark dance with the waves and with her the guy was what came out of the dark waves, him putting his hands on her and staining her clothes and skin with his ink represented him in a way making her impure and making her "dirty" or not clean, that's why when she saw in the mirror her reflection she couldn't believe what that man had done to her. We then see in the next scene how when they dance it's a constant battle of them becoming tangled with themselves until eventually the girl tries to escape hence why we see her kicking and screaming but he chokes her down. The impurity he brought into her life was sex, he had sex with her and basically sexually abused her that's why you see him being very rough with her like kicking her or just always having the same serious expression. It becomes clear when we see that he gets home and just has his way with her without a care of what she thinks or feels. In the last scene we see her standing now covered in that dark ink in the forest and she gets covered in the ink stained sheets. The sheets represent the amount of times that this happened between her and him, the amount of times he sexually abused her and made her impure. They wrap around her and because she'll never be able to have them clean, they now become part of her and define who she is. The man in ink appears for the last time because he'll always be there, he's invaded her home, her body, her mind, and he's showing her that he'll always have his hands around her.

When i first saw this video 4 years ago, i was this girl in the beginning, so pure, full of light and hope and empty at the same time in some sense. I was watching the video then and felt an awakening. The feeling that something big will come soon that will change everything. And it did, with a face of a man and the deceit of the devil. I thought i knew selfless all-giving love while i was with him, but at the same time was struggling with self-loathing for 3 years, looking in the mirror and seeing a soulless being, a nothing. It is over now, for 6 months but still, i see him in my dreams, i think about him and i feel the anger build inside me like never before. Still i feel like nothing in this life belongs to me, myself included, still he has this control over me somehow. Like the girl in the video, i think i will never get over the abuse but i want to live so i have to have something mine. I have to find my soul again.

I am not sure if I already commented on this, but I am 51, and a friend of my children shared this on Facebook. The depth, the beauty, the understanding, the strength ..... and the UNDERSTANDING! of this song and the beautiful video, still has me addicted 3 months later. This is award winning stuff!! Why am I not seeing this on mainstream? I have shared it twice on my FB page, as well as shown it to various friends and young aquaintances. I think those who haven't fully experienced this trauma in a relationship may not be able to relate to it. Unfortunately I experienced this at a young age. I fully understand the undying love for the individual who has so much darkness and unhappiness in their soul, as well as their controlling personalities. Well done Elliot, as well as his amazingly talented dancers. They all have an amazing future.

I love the choreography to no end. You made it extraordinary altogether, but my favorite thing is how you showcase this girl. She is supposed to be the victim here, but the moves she was given exploit how strong and beautiful she is. To me that is symbolic of everyone the girl represents. Anyone in an abusive situation, or suffering in other ways, has individual beauty and strength that can't be completely hidden. We have hope.

This song is about sexual abuse and how sometimes the victim sees them self's as the problem. At the beginning the girl is all neat, clean and wearing white (the color of innocence). After being attacked she is not tainted with black tar. When she looks in the merrier she collapse in disbelief and she is blaming her self for the incident. The part where she is frighting him off while laying down but then she just ends up being chocked is the moment of realization that fighting is pointless. And the part where her clothing is just slipped right off is the moment he strips her innocence. The light bulb being covered in tar represents the girl losing he innocence. There's more symbols, such as the bracelet, but I'm not sure what they all stand for and I don't have much time to explain them all.

Although trying to keep a nice image on the outside, the mirror show us how empty she really feels on the inside, and the weight she carries on her shoulders - him (depression). She tries to run away from it but again, depression never ceases. It shows how it changes your mirror image, how it changes what you feel and think about yourself. You struggle in the begging, you keep fighting against it (him) until you surrender and let it talk to you, let it manipulate your thoughts, your intimacy, your happiness, and then you fall into that big black hole that eats all your light out, which is depression The music, choreography, dancers, video, story... This is a masterpiece.

I am pretty sure that this is about rape, not depression. The imagery of him unbuckling his belt in the bedroom, when they're not dancing, and the way the camera points specifically at his groin but not his face when he enters and then closes the door behind him, is pretty clear. The dirty sheets that cover her at the end as well. The weight she carries on her shoulders isn't depression, it's the objectification and nothingness she was made to feel. She came to see the world as ugly when she used to live in an illusion of freedom and beauty.

This video is so inspiring. The music and choreography just morphs together to from a very powerful story. The woman in the video obviously conveys a victim who went from someone so pure to falling in love with someone who was toxic to her and dragged her away from her innocence and drained of her happiness. Regardless of all that, she couldn't leave, either because of whatever love she had left or the fear that just compels her to interpret that staying is the safer option. On the other hand, you have the lyrics. It sounds like it's coming from the man's perspective. "Call off the dogs, we've found her..." He's looking for her, he needs her, and he's almost obsessed with her or this power over her. Even though it sounds like she's important to her, the way the song started with that set of lyrics sounds so hostile, like she's being chased by a predator... As she walks away, he begs to be with her. It shows how much he needs her or needs this dominance over her... Anyone can have their own interpretations, but this is how I see it. In perfect harmony, combining the views of both parties of an abusive relationship. It demonstrates how some are so obsessed and why some don't have either the courage or the heart to leave a relationship that is so toxic.
