A good example is Khumba, since he had a likeable personality, wasn't solely defined by being an outcast, but a caring, gentle, brave soul who struggled with his own identity and self-worth, while he did start off as cynical, it's understandable considering he's constantly being bullied by the herd, and after he and his friends and went on a journey of self-discovery, he genuinely changed over the course of the narrative.

Since they decided to have a horse for this instead of a reindeer, yet did NOTHING with the fact that horses can actually pull sleighs quite well, allow me my 10 minute Shower Thoughts alternate version minus the evil elf and jerky lady and news reporter and flying rings etc. Keep Elliot a horse. Keep him on the small hobby farm. Make him something like a Haflinger - short and round for that cute factor, but strong and literally designed to pull sleighs and sleds. Keep his idolizing Santa. He loves how his sleigh rides make kids happy, but he wishes he could do more than just slow rides around the farm and local forest trails. The kids always talk about Santa, and Elliot considers Santa and the reindeer his ultimate superstars. He's awed by how graceful they must be to fly around the world, while he's stuck on the ground and a slow-and-steady type. They visit billions of people while he clearly cannot. Christmas Eve comes, and the farm and local area is engulfed by one of those Santa-Thwarthing storms, particularly with wind. Santa and his reindeer get grounded in the woods near the farm, unable to stay airborne with the wind shears. Elliot hears the distant sound of sleigh bells and animals on snow - KNOWS THEM because he pulls sleighs - and gallops to the rescue. He follows Rudolph's light to their location, is awed to see his heroes in real life, and at first laments he can't help them because he can't fly. But Santa doesn't need flight right now - he needs someone who knows the woods, and someone strong enough to pull the sleigh on the ground until they get out of the windstorm. Rudolph gives up his spot at the front of the sleigh, the harness is awkwardly fit around Elliot, and Elliot slowly and surely leads them out of the forest and into safety. Classic display of "don't idolize someone else's abilities by dismissing your own talents." After the typical touching moment before Santa and crew depart, he returns to the farm to find the humans and his friends frantic, searching around the edge of the farm and praying he hasn't been lost to the weather. He realizes that, while he can't be a hero to every child in the world, he's irreplaceable to those he knows and loves. The next Christmas, he receives a present with an "honorary reindeer" harness to use on his sleigh at the farm. *Thanks for coming to my TedTalk*

Why is this movie even called "The *Littlest* Reindeer"? Elliot's problem is that he's a *horse,* not that he's too little. I hate when a movie calls itself "The Little/Littlest Something Something" when the main character having to overcome being little has nothing whatsoever to do with anything. Even with good movies like "The Little Mermaid" or "The Brave Little Toaster" this bugs me.

every time i see a film like this all i can think of is how to fix it. in this case, why not start at the farm, maybe have the goat races be one of the main attractions and have everyone there have a job. Reindeer pull a normal sleigh, maybe along side the larger full grown horses. everyone has a job sept the protage who, because he's just a pony and is too small to join in on the more glamorous work , he and the other ponies are subjected to petting zoo duty. it's a fine enough job, and he loves the attention but he also longs for something more. this is where the trials for santa's newest team come in. every few centuries this happens. the reindeer are growing older and weaker and maybe even thinking about retirement so Santa, being a good jolly fat man holds reindeer games as a test for the best of the best. bc the games arent an every year thing it's a grand event and thus advertised all through the North Pole (in this story it would be an actual idk country or continent or w/e. the point is it would have small towns throughout, one of which is where elliot and his friends live) Elliot sees the games as his chance to finally be more than what he is so he sneaks in the trailer of reindeer as the farmer has registered them as a group. when they get there and as the elves are counting to make sure everyone's registrations are in order, he's discovered. idk maybe DJ and his bad guy friends encourage the elves to let him be if only to show elliot that he has no place on santa's sleigh. They try their best to get back at him for even daring to think he'd be anything more than what he was (idk man insert obstacles here). there are times they almost work but bc elliot has been training and not with hazel but....humm lets give DJ a little sister that will be generic love interest but either make it a secrete that their father was one of the OG teams or just not a thing that people talk about bc xyz. Anyway, bc the games take place over a few weeks, and every day DJ and his goons make sure that Ell's time there is hell, at one point he gives up. Maybe it's bc there are a set of like trials and thanks to DJ, Ell's only barely been placing in them until and during of them, a goon is actually injured alongside ell to the point where they need a dr. The games are on hold bc Santa's a hufflepuff and wants everyone to have an equal chance and bc the next game is the last. the big winner's circle type one and bc Ell's been impressing Santa (i mean we know he has a thing for the underdogs, rudolph is team leader) and speaking of red nosed reindeer, have Elliot bump into none other than the deer himself. Basically tell him that he was small and weak once and no one thought he should be on a team either, much less lead one. he gives him a pep talk about how differences can be extraordinary, if only you can learn to work with them and not against them. Day of the big, game comes, the one that's worth the most points assuming that was a points based. Elliot lines up and takes a glance at the stands and sees the small bit of friends he has cheering him on and looks up as Santa brings the crowd to a hush. He and Rudolph march along the set of contenders that have gained enough points to be where they are. he wishes them luck, rudolph even sees Elliot and though he's been more or less silent and stoic, upon spotting Ell he gives a wink and a grin which prompts the horse to stand taller and with more pride. A flare shoots off and the final game has begun. Maybe it's a race around santa's estate that he and the elves have configured with obstacles designed to test "real world" situations. One by one competitors drop (safely!) out of the race, literally. So far leading the pack are DJ and Elliot, having been eiter smart enough to notice the a threat or being the only ones at the time that could make it through. They're on the last leg, they can both see the winners circle and are pushing themselves to the limits when something death defying happens and DJ ends up in a kind of danger that Santa hadn't built. The only one that can save him is Elliot. He stops, panting hard from the rush of the race, and assess the danger DJ's in. There's a near death scene and a, "why? Why would you help me after all ive done?" scene and they end up slowly crossing the finish line together maybe even having DJ have to lean on Elliot bc of a bad leg. Neither of them has finished first, but every ones more relieved that theyre safe. Santa tells them it was never about being first but about avoiding danger and looking out for one another both of which Elliot has shown. His spot is secure and he offers a spot to DJ as well after he's healed. DJ comes clean about cheating the whole time and rather than dismissing him, Santa looks to Elliot to see how he feels about it all. Through the games he and DJ had been slowly growing closer, to the point where they maybe have more of a fun rivalry than just a generic villain and protag. So he jokes that so long as he wont try and kill him again he can rest up enough for DJ to eat his magical dust come christmas. OH btws, DJ and generic love interest?? Rudolphs babies and Rudy's none to happy to find out his son was the cause of the pony's bullying. He decides to give DJ some demeaning light grunt work as punishment while love interest comes to check on Elliot and make sure alls well. They end up under the mistletoe and share a kiss as her dad and brother bicker and fight in the background. boom happy ending. Generic? yeah, but you have anthro animals in a film about christmas centered around santa's workshop. all the studios are making everything about technophobic, and trying to rewrite zootpia-esq stuff. just bc its popular doesnt mean everyone should try and copy it. christmas movies are B movies we laugh at and dont think about till its crammed down our throats next year. anyway ive never written such a long comment and i must go live life now. good day to you and your raven

I don’t think that’s really a c’mon trope in films where training is involved. Hell Captain America is a subversion of said trope. Instead of using the flag pole as a metaphor for his growth in training, it is used to showcase how his strength comes mostly from how pragmatic he is.

The writing's garbage, like hot garbage, and the voice actors for the main characters could probably be replaced (nothing against them, it's just that I don't think they fit the role that well). However, the animation is beautiful, I can only hope for the best for the animators (although, probably the best advise I can give them is run, get out of Awesometown Entertainment (yes really) as fast you can!)
