I think a great underrated film in the collection is Three Outlaw Samurai, not just because not many people talk about it but because the Blu Ray is $30 so it’s a bit cheaper than your average criterion and I think those who r tight for cash but still want to indulge in the sale should definitely check it out

Thanks for that Elliot. I do have the Emigrants & The new Land which I have seen as well in theatre a couple times back when. The Game is another fantastic recommendation that I will look into buying as I have the DVD. I wish it was more appropriate to take advantage of the sale but being in Canada makes for a more costly proposition. Now - onto your next video of recommendations. Thanks for all your content Elliot.

So glad I clicked! I had bottom of the barrel expectations for Zazie because anything I did hear was pretty negative. People thinking it was irritating and whatnot. I expected to as well based on descriptions but whoa buddy did I not find it to be true. It's the most cartoony a live action movie has ever gotten, and as a lover of the silent era as well seeing this fast paced no holds barred zaniness was so unique an experience. Was quite sad when it was all over.
@fanorama12 жыл бұрын
You'll appreciate this story because it was before you were born! On February 28, 1972, The Damned (Rated X) was aired on CBS at 11:30 pm. Long after most kiddies were sound asleep. The film was heavily edited when shown on CBS television late at night, leading one executive to joke that the film should be retitled The Darned. This technically made it the first X-rated film to be shown on American network television. So 15 year old me, waited until my dad passed out in front of the TV and I crept downstairs to watch it from 1:45-2:30am. The scene I distinctly remember was the slaughter of the SA troops by the SS troops. Glad to see it on your list! 🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞🎞

Agreed on Zazie. Felt like I was watching live action Looney Tunes. Highly recommend rewatching this one as well because half the jokes in the movie happen in the background and if you don't speak French, you'll miss most of that staring at the subtitles.

Looney Tunes is a great analogue for Zazie! I'm trying to improve my very basic French at the moment, and this is a film I will revisit many times in the process!

As a fan of thriller/suspense/mysteries The Game is a masterpiece made by a master director. David Fincher knows the essence of each movie he directs and every decision in the movie making process reflects each movie uniquely the pacing, soundtrack, cinematography etc.

some other underrated Criterion releases I'd recommend during the sale are -Mikey and Nicky (1976): Atypical take on the gangster film that becomes a study of male friendship and how friendships decay. Really great acting performances from Peter Falk and John Cassavetes -Death By Hanging (1968): Dark comedy social satire masterpiece from Nagisa Oshima about capital punishment and the treatment of Koreans in Japanese society. This goes to some really strange places and has an ending that will stick in your mind forever -Death of a Cyclist (1955): A film about how guilt can eat you alive from the inside. There's also some interesting stuff in here about social class in fascist Spain and what people do to maintain their position in society -Twenty-Four Eyes (1954): Different kind of war film that focuses on the life of an elementary school teacher in a small Japanese town as Japan descends further into fascism -Black Girl (1966): Powerful look at colonialism and its aftermath via the relationship between a Senegalese maid and the French family she works for

Talking only about Criterion is boring. There are many collectors who collect and post videos about this label. Also talking about 4k only as "best 4k release of the year", "best 4k transfer", "waiting for 4k" or other topics of this format. Booribg too! I would like, and I think many collectors feel the same way, to see other thematic presentations, releases with great titles, it doesn't matter if they are even on DVD and it doesn't matter if they are from a big label or from an obscure house release. Those posts will be very interesting indeed. If a movie is on Criterion, this movie is the complete opposite of "unknown" or "underrated". Don't you think? by the way, i post in this video because this video is good. the way you present those titles... interesting. But also... Criterion. These movies are very well known so... you understand what I mean... 🤗
