A few years ago, in a moment of weakness, i considered writing her an anonymous letter telling her how hurtful she had been. Two things stopped me. She had become old and obese and, horrifically, her husband had relatively recently committed suicide. Obviously I didn't have the heart to write her. I am sorry for what she must have suffered, but I admit, part of me wonders if she could have helped her husband if she had more empathy at her disposal. Who knows. I now wish her wholeness and hope.

Here’s a story for you. In 3rd grade, I had this teacher who, for privacy, I’ll call her Mrs. D, for Dumb, and ironically, D is the first letter of her name. Anyways, our original teacher, also named Mrs. D but the D stands for a different name, she was sick. I couldn’t blame her, she was old! Anyways, Mrs. Dumb, she was strict, yelled at everyone for crouching down and tying their shoes because it “blocked other people from going to place to place”! It’s a classroom, there are different ways to get from A to B. She also didn’t teach anything other than the T.A who taught the 3rd graders math from time to time, she was dumb, and all she did was read Roald Dahl books. And so I never learned what Conjunctions or Prepositions were until 4th grade. In 7th grade, I had a much worse teacher. Her name was Mrs. D, but the D stood for something different. But for privacy’s sake, I’ll call her Mrs Doofus. For our final, we had to cook a cuisine, eat a cuisine, or read a book. However, I had COVID-19 during the week of the final so when I had to procrastinate, Mrs D accused me of lying or something. I kept telling her the truth but she denied it and kept insisting that they were all excuses. In the end, my parents got involved because the stupid b#tch wrote an email to them. I hated her. A lot.

Storytime✨ So some detail before I start the story this happened about 4-5 months ago. I’m in 8th grade and it with 4th period science class. We had a substitute teacher that day. He was HORRIBLE. He fat/skinny shamed almost everyone. He was a creep to some of the girls. He called kids worthless, unloved, ugly, and to harm themselves whenever they got off task. A kid who sits next to me (He’s African American) stood up to the sub and the sub fr called him the N word. Yup it was very traumatizing. After class we had one more class (plus, which was when we do out homework and stuff) and then lunch. The sub told us to come into the class during lunch cause “we didn’t earn it.” One kid said that we needed to eat and some of us didn’t eat anything yet today and the sub said, “Well you look like you don’t need lunch and should be eating less anyways.” So during lunch we all lined up in front of the class while we aired for the sub to open the door but then we decided to screw the sun and not listen. Cause he doesn’t have the right to take our lunch away for no reason. We all stayed together as a class and went to the field area for lunch and just talked about how horrible the sun was and conferred the kids who were hurt cause of the horrible things he was saying. The next day our actual teacher was back and she told us that the sub said we fat shamed him and called him horrible things. We didn’t do any of that. We all explained everything and the sub was fired and arrested for ‘sexual harassment and some other things’ cause he was very touchy with some of the girls and said sexual things to them. None of us will ever forget that sub.

My first grade teacher was awful. I was really smart so when I had to do a reading test with her, I did really well. After that she made me read while she taught the other students because I was too smart. While everyone else was listening to her lessons, me and a few other smart kids had to sit in the back and read. She didn’t even give us harder work, or anything else to do but read a book. She thought she didn’t have to teach us because we were already smarter than everyone else. This went on for about half the school year until she got surgery and was replaced with an amazing substitute for the rest of the year.

I have a younger sister and she was diagnosed with dyslexia when she was five. We lived in Jakarta at the time, and we were both enrolled in the same school. That school had mandarin language studies and bahasa indonesia language studies as parts of the core curriculum. My sister struggled to keep up with trying to read and write in english while speaking portuguese at home AND studying bahasa (which has a different grammar system than english) and mandarin (which involved learning characters and tonal pronounciations). As a six-year-old. I struggled as well at that age, but imagine a child who hasn’t even completed their reading foundation because of a disability? This gave her a lot of anxiety, and she developed a compulsion that always had her keeping her hands wet. She would go to the bathroom to wash her hands all the time, but her teacher thought she was cutting class so she stopped her. Then she started licking her fingers. The teacher told her to stop but she was six, she didn’t have a lot of self-control. So the teacher taped her hands to the desk while the whole class laughed at her. This was around dismissal time, so my mom was actually waiting outside the classroom when this happened (it was a small private school so they trusted familiar faces). After that, my mom reported the incident and while nothing happened to the teacher, the school started taking us seriously. They took my sister out of mandarin and put her in play therapy for that period (the mandarin teacher was also a nightmare-my sister had to sit out of a game because she had to go to play therapy and the teacher told her that she would make sure she never joined any other games). Anyway, this story ends well because we took her out of that school after that whole ordeal and enrolled her in the local Montessori school (the Montessori method involves “learning through play” and it helped her a lot). We live in the US now and we go to public schools. My siser has trouble finishing tests on time, but other than that, things are good. We tried to get her extra testing time, but the school concluded that she wasn’t dyslexic because she was reading at her middle school grade level. Just so we’re clear, most middle schoolers in our district read at a college-level lexile, so she is in fact behind and they just refuse to give her extra time (they did give her an overlay, though, and that seems to he working). It sucks that she can’t have things made a little easier so the playing field is evened out, but she has teachers who offer to read tests for her and let her stay after school to finish them. We’re working with her to get her to work through tests faster and we’re looking to see if she can have the overlay approved for state and national testing. I’m proud of my little sister for working hard to overcome her disability to the point where others don’t recognize her need for help. She’s a rockstar.

After WW2 with the fall of bad Germany many teachers made “experiments” about Nationalism in a bad way telling some where better then others and others not the ones that where better made them mad at the others and in some cases the “better ones” injured the not cool ones. No joke the first story happened to me in 4th grade. Except my desk was like the one shown with the paper sticking out. I had horrible ADHD (and probably autism. Haven't been properly diagnosed, but I carry a lot of the symptoms) so my desk was NEVER clean. I'd shove something in--mostly papers, sometimes used tissues and forget to take it out because I never wanted to bring attention to myself. (I hated having to ask the teacher to leave my seat, I was a very shy child.) My teacher Mrs. Wells never liked me anyway, so she picked the desk up and shook everything out of it onto the floor. Then she started humiliating and berating me about it in front of the whole class. It was pretty traumatizing.

The first one literally happened to me in 2nd grade, she came over to me yelling grabbed my desk and dumped everything out and made me clean it up
