Elliott fan? Check out my original music, Elliott covers, and vlogs over on my channel ---- Elliott Smith performs with Jon Brion on the Jon Brion Show in 2000. Solid set in pretty high quality. Drop a like for Elliott!

Two of the most talented, most underrated artists of our generation. I find myself returning to this video year after year. The fact that this even happened, muchless that I can access it at will, is remarkable and an extraordinary gift from God.

Andy Trullinger Jon Brion, it seems, had a connection with Elliott. Elliott, not being much one for interviews, telecasted performances or commerciality, played live with Brion multiple times. It says a lot about their artistic relationship, and Brion is clearly a fan as he gives Elliott proper praise upon and after every guest appearance. These two performing ‘Happiness’ in this state warms my heart in many ways, my friend.

This was probably tough for Elliott. He controlled everything on his recordings and played every instrument, and would probably consider this "noodling over his track" as many top solo singer/songwriters dreaded. But I think Brion gets this and uses a light touch and ends up adding a lot to this track. I even think Brion realizes in this set that he is playing with a genius. the result is magical.

As someone who controls everything on my recordings and plays every instrument, I am quite happy to let anyone else noodle over my tracks when performing live, in fact I invite it... I don't think it was tough for Elliott to let Jon perform on his tracks, in fact he probably invited it too

Sometimes a song takes a while to sink in Elliott’s music has taught me so much about chords rhythm, and melody, and this song really stuck out to me when I heard it so many years ago To know how beautiful a song like this is and then see it arranged with Jon Brion making those beautiful sounds It actually makes me sad that Elliott couldn’t enjoy his life and his songs the way we do
@JunkBondTrader
@JunkBondTrader 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah Elliott's music is the type to take a bit to sink in usually. The first song I heard by him was Can't Make a Sound, which is an easily likeable, accessible song IMO. So I loved it immediately. Then delving further, his other songs were a lot more challenging to grasp right away... But sure enough, one by one, I fell in love with all of them. Elliott taught me SO much about playing as well. What a great musician for a player/songwriter/singer/musician to model themselves after.... He's the most well rounded songwriter of all time IMO.

Made his life a lie.. I told him he shouldn't upset her. he'd probably just be making it worse... he'd probably never forget her, while her memory worked in reverse, to keep her safe from herself. All i want now, is happiness, for you and me. Every line is so beautifully written.. Even the tenses of of the verbs. There is no man that gives words more meaning than Elliott.

hurr hurr definitely a difficult situation but hey man you can get through this! There's gonna be some days that are absolutely miserable but push through it all. Life has a way of surprising us, sometimes in some not so good ways. Most you can is learn and grow as a person and learn to appreciate the littler things in your life. It won't always be bad even if it doesn't seem like it. I understand how you feel and its not easy but its not impossible. Sometimes i remind myself how much i wish Elliott Smith pushed through in his life through all the struggles and even though he ended up giving in, i wish he didn't and so it kinda serves as a motivator to just push through whatever. The process of getting over somethin like that will take time and the process won't be linear. There'll be good and bad days but appreciate the hell out of the good ones and push through the hard ones. Explore and find things that make you happy (they exist). Though im just a random dude rambling on in the comments section of a yt video what do i know. Only you can help yourself in the end. Take care man

I was supposed to see him for my first time as well at that same Long Beach ATP festival (since I wasn't able to get tickets for the show earlier that year on my birthday, Jan 31st, which was thankfully posted in it's entirety here on youtube). I still went and got to see his backup band perform the same set that they had been practicing with Elliott for the fest with all of Elliott's friends singing different songs. At the end, they all joined each other onstage to sing this song, Happiness.

I don't care for Elliott's music (sorry, just isn't my thing), but man, what a gorgeous human being he was on the inside! That's what the real loss is in my opinion. His sister said it: She'd give up all his music just to have her brother back, and I would rather he never made music, too, if it meant he was still on earth as the wonderfully kind, gentle, compassionate person he was. He had so much more joy to experience in life and so many more memories to create with his loved ones. RIP, Elliott. The world would be a better place if more people had your heart.
