As a nurse who works in corrections I’m going to say the officers dropped the ball! That inmate was dangerous and they knew he had already attacked public servants, he should have been a 2-3 officer transport with body cams rolling! No way that young officer should have transported him back to his cell alone!!! COME ON!!!! This was preventable 😢

I saw a co get stabbed one time in the Fresno County jail, that co lived but we all thought it was strange when a co actually came in by himself aaaaaand then he tried to start a bunch of fights then tried to steal from a gang member and well... We just thought it was odd that this was the first time we had ever seen a co come in by himself and he just happened to start a fight, commit felony armed robbery, official oppression and get stabbed... Bet you officer Jethro here did the exact same thing, started the fight.

I'm a current corrections officer and our policy is always have two deputies present when removing an inmate from a cell. If the inmate has a violent history, they will be secured in binder restraints which is basically a set of handcuffs connected to leg irons with a chain. If the inmate still attempts to cause harm to a deputy, they will be at a great disadvantage and regret that decision. This is awful and was totally preventable.

Don't expect a release of camera footage anytime soon. The sheriff characterized the inmate as "pure evil". I don't need any clearer indication than that to tell me the inmates are mistreated. If he was truly "Pure evil" then why in the hell was only one deputy working alone? I totally get it that jails across the country are understaffed. I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that Officer Bias worked 70 hours a week for the last year. Over worked and underpaid. America's Correctional Officers are greatly under-appreciated.
@KhanTrav
@KhanTrav 8 күн бұрын
Forget about camera footage, it probably did not happen in view of one. Regarding the work hours, you are definitely on target. The state requires a 1-48 ratio of staff to inmates. This is non-negotiable. To meet that, the jails require staff to work overtime. 60 to 80 hour work weeks are very common in county jails all over Texas. This has been the case since the pandemic. People do not want to work in jails, but for some reason, criminals keep being criminals.
@gottagift
@gottagift 8 күн бұрын
@@KhanTrav There is a notion/belief that jails are not suppose to be comfortable or nice. That way of thinking needs to be addressed. 40 years ago things were different. Back in 1984 inmates could spend two-three hours a day outdoors. These days it is more likely an inmate won't see the outdoors more than an hour every ten days. This is due to staff shortages. Inmates who behaved had the privilege of cleaning up highways or blighted neighborhoods, That was because there was enough staff to go around. If a fellow got sick he could see the nurse without funds being withdrawn from his account. Visits occurred five days a week. A meal was more significant then a frozen dinner meant for a twelve year old. Three nights a week, a cart loaded with sliced bread and peanut butter would be delivered to a dormitory at 8:PM. Remember the movie the Green Mile, death row inmate John Coffey got to see a movie in a cinema like setting? That was actually a normal thing on Saturday nights for general population. What has happened over the last forty years is that inmates are now treated like dogs in the dog pound. All because of budget cuts, staff shortages, and a generalize sense in society that "Jail isn't suppose to be nice." That thinking doesn't just affect the inmates, it also affects the staff. Forty years ago, the sheriff would not say something so dehumanizing as "He is pure Evil". To think the Sheriff doesn't feel that way about 90% of the inmate population would be inaccurate. Most staff likely have a perception that inmates should be treated like dogs in a dog pound. If you were forced to work 70 hours to babysit a bunch of grown men how would you feel? Naturally, staff are going to learn to resent inmates but that thinking is nowhere in the job description. I have feelings for both the staff and the inmates alike. Living conditions have gotten so bad over the last forty years that you can see it on Google Earth. Open google Earth and zoom into any jail/prison in the country and they all have one thing in common. The recreation yards are completely empty. Forty years ago there would be 100 inmates outdoors. Now they are all locked up inside like they are trapped in a cave. Jail isn't suppose to be nice but guess what, it isn't suppose to be cruel and unusual either.

@@adriang9574 when you have a demographic that is protected and coddled with soft expectations every one else is a potential victim. That is until they meet that MFer that don't put with their nonsense (like my brother Daniel Penny, OORAH). But that doesn't happen very often because the protected class are cowards and only prey on the weak and outnumbered.

The inmate could be in if jail for hurting a child etc and the ONLY thing you can think is to place blame on the officer. You've been in jail before it shows. You lack accountability

Every jail and prison in the USA is understaffed. Jail or prison guards are paid poorly with very few benefits. It is a dangerous job so no one wants to do it. No one should risk their life for peanuts.

💯 percent correct. We will see more of that type of individual in society. The half of the country that votes for open cells, and taps on the wrists punishment while demonizing the people who they immediately call when it reaches their doors or gated communities.

Why does it need to make national news? Do you really think the entire country's attention should be to turned to this? The government and corporate media do a well enough job keeping Americans distracted with irrelevant news stories. The local news is covering it just fine. Keep the national news for national news.
