This was the most helpful search tips I have heard for N.Y. Entries. Knowing the history of the initial name taking is a game changer. Like the Italian wife using Maiden Name & kids could have either listed. I will search again with these guidlines.

Learn the handwriting of where your family comes from! In Italian, the "I" can look like what we think is a "T" and therefore will be transcribed as a "T"
