It was when Music Critics applauded Red Velvet after “The Red” Album then drastically changed into “The Velvet”. The meaning of the video can also be a tribute to Sewol Tragedy. However, Even if this was critically acclaimed and praised, it was criminally underrated since they took the risk to release a rnb ballad song as a title track as no one does that normally in a girl group but it started their Maturity through their music. “The Red” Album was highly acclaimed and “The Velvet” was their first album that showcased their talents Vocal-Wise. The Red and The Velvet Album are highly Recommended. Cool Hot Sweet Love and Lighti Me Up are so TOP TIER from The Velvet Album

Since then we kind of say "oh this song is more of the velvet side" or "mix of both but dominant red side" it became a way to help to describe their style, because RV is playing with both sides and surprising us. There're more than a group with catchy but weird songs, it's more subtle. I recommend too to check out their album, as always gems are hidden in them.

I remember the first time I listened to The Velvet. I made the choice because I had hear One Of These Nights and was blown away, then Cool Hot Sweet Love came on and god damn. That song is perfect. I wish RV would do really dive back into this style again, because while I really do like their newer stuff, I absolutely love the 90's RnB vibe that The Velvet has.

This music video is about the Sewol Ferry tragedy... The girls play the kids that were inside the boat when it drowned. Joy is the only survivor... She climbs the stairs and appears wearing black in the end, mourning for her friends and comunicate with them in that table that seems like a spiritual circle with the candles. Seulgi stays the entire mv wandering around the boat, trying to escape and finding only water. She is the one walking away in the end when the lights fade. Yeri is drowning floating in the boat while it rains. Wendy hides under a table, which was what many terrified kids did during the disaster and where many corpses were found. Irene is the one that gets caught when the water breaks a window and falls. It is terribly sad... but also beautifully sang and acted by Red Velvet.

RV was filled with a lot of thoughts and insecurities when they released this song. They were doing so well with their 'red' songs and to suddenly promote with a very laid back 'velvet' song, they thought that ppl might not like it. But instead, they won on music shows and are recognized for their vocals too. It's musically interesting and also showcased their beautiful harmonies so for me, it's a very great song. I'm looking forward to more RV reactions from you! 'Kingdom Come', for me, is their best b-side song. You should totally check that out. 😊

OOTN was actually one of the most emotional era for Red Velvet, they didn't even expect they would get any win on music shows. Having a Ballad song for a comeback was suicidal For groups and they just did! Red Velvet really out there being one of the most versatile idols. By the way you might want to check Automatic.

I think a lot of their "velvet side" songs would surprise you, especially Kingdom Come and Automatic. Their "red side" is more bouncy, happy, dance-centric. I clicked on this review ready to cry. It's pretty widely understood to be a tribute to the Sewol Ferry incident where nearly an entire high school's junior class drowned while on a trip before their senior year (when they would be cramming to get into college). I remember when Obama sent aid to SK right away to try to help with the rescue efforts. The outcome of all of that caused SK to really look into their government and was a major turning point in impeaching SK's president at the time. The story of the sinking is tragic and the MV & song are powerful. I can't watch the MV without tearing up and getting chills. On another note... if this was surprising for you, have you not watched RV's "Automatic" & "Be Natural" yet? "Automatic" is one of my favorite songs of theirs.

This is the most beautiful song yet written in the history of Kpop, and I'll fight anyone who says differently. The lyrics are your typical "star-crossed lovers" fare but the video is a tribute to the over 300 high-school students who were tragically and needlessly killed in the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. Ironically, F(x's) Red Light videos covers the same topic, but from a slightly different angle.
