True!!! I will agree with her though that L.A. is full of low self-esteem people who need attention and its why they act this way....but Imma give u the keys to enjoying L.A. and Cali in general 😉. *warning-long post* I lived in the Island Empire area when I was a kid so going to L.A. to visit is a different experience for me because I hang around the natives and locals and THAT'S the key to enjoying California....its NOT L.A. or the people in it. They are expats. Go for the cheesy touristy stuff, have confidence (Im not talking arrogance) and then even the people of L.A. will draw to you. Low self-esteem draws to high self-esteem...and Im a broke bitch so its not a money thing either lol😂. My husband and I arent scared or Intimidated by the bougie attitudes and EVERYTIME we go out, we draw crowds who want to party with us.....its confidence and not giving a fuck that's the key to L.A..... but then take your ass out of there and enjoy the AMAZING state for what you read and see, but with the natives of Cali and you will have the time of your life every time, Guaranteed no matter where in California you go! Dont let the brats ruin it for you....so to sum it up, just dont pay attention to it and be yourself and confident...its what L.A. lacks so they will then draw to you but DEFINITELY get to know the natives and locals who live in L.A. and outside of L.A. and let them show you the time of your life!

I feel like you're talking about a very specific part of LA....West Hollywood/Hollywood area. However you could absolutely see an old woman with purple hair say in Venice. East LA has nice people who are super down to earth. Or what about Long Beach, Whittier, Pasadena, Montebello, Pico Rivera, Downey, Commerce..these are all towns in LA where the people you're talking about really don't exist. It's sad that West Hollywood really represents all of LA for so many people because it's such a small, shallow part of a really great city.

Lex Grrez I met so many amazing people in LA in the 4 years I’ve been here. I think it’s naive to categorize a whole city as fake people, because seriously, in my experience, almost everyone I met here is so genuine and kind and actually care about other people. I guess if you hang out in Beverly Hills or Hollywood is a whole different story. But it’s also what you say, the people you attract 🤷🏽♀️ I love both NYC and LA anyways.

Hey, as someone who moved to LA for college and work, I can say you're 100% right. I notice this more than the natives because I wasn't used to this new culture and it wasn't until a few years later, I saw LA for what it is. Even in the cities around LA where people are considered more "normal", I still experience this but to a lesser degree. Coming from Texas to California, I've never had friendships outside of work that lasted more than 2 years. People seem to befriend you if you're convenient or if they find some sort of use in you whether it be popularity, money, social networking, etc.... they don't actually care for you as a person if you know what I mean. Everyone is more ambitious and are using everyone else to some degree, that's the biggest thing I noticed. There's very few people who are actually genuine. I've always had people say they want to hangout and they never do, it's like they're just saying nice and friendly things just for the sake of saying it. I've been to other places where people are rude and blunt, but the thing is, they mean what they say. At least when they invite you to dinner, they actually do it and not ghost you.

I'm from Los angels and I'm fine with your take on this city but not ok with you saying MOST of the people here are fake. That's a generalization I've never liked because it really only takes into account the people that are in the entertainment industry in one respect or another (yes, I include KZbin in that), most of whom aren't even from here, and completely forgets about the rest of us. Los Angeles is the only city I can think of that gets stereotyped by one industry. New York doesn't get stereotyped by wall street and the banking industry. If you only hung out with nothing but bankers or the people around that in New York and generalized based on that I doubt people would accept that as fact but in Los Angeles if you use people in the entertainment industry as the bases for your opinion on us as a whole that's perfectly acceptable. How often do people that make these statements hangout in East Los Angeles, South Central, Compton, the harbor area? And I don't mean for an afternoon. I'm ok with people not liking Los Angeles, I love it. But when you say most people are fake you're including the almost half of this city that's Hispanic, mostly working class, who either fought or who's parents fought to get here. You're including the black people who've been here for generations and carved out their place. Both the brown and black communities have to deal with violence in one form or another so the idea that most of them are worried about their Instagram followers is funny to me because growing up I was more worried about getting shot. You're including the working class white people who don't know what the fuck you're talking about when you talk about Facebook followers because they're too busy trying to put food on the table. You're including the rest of the people here, largely immigrants, who worked hard to get here and make a home. You're including the largest homeless population in the country. Sorry, I very rarely ever rant but that kinda just felt like it needed to come out.
@trinitycasanova99226 жыл бұрын
***APPLAUSE*** I'm from South Central and for her to say that all of L.A is fake is such bullshit. All these youtubers are always talking about how snobby and fake people are in L.A but just like them they are hanging out with people who weren't born in L.A. Come over to EAST L.A and then say that all of L.A is fake, all you will see is hard working people.
@colleenmichele50546 жыл бұрын
YES!!!!! 100000000%....I am not familiar with the girl who posted this video...I can say she seems extremely sweet and genuine. What I find, generally, is that people who don't like LA because they think everyone is fake, are the people who are trying to social climb. They're the people going out to the Hollywood clubs every weekend hoping to get noticed. They're the people who want to make it, but don't and base their entire LA experience off of Hollywood. I live in East LA (am from Chicago) and I can say that if you're coming to LA for the entertainment industry you're going to be in for a rough ride. If you're coming to live in warm weather, meet chill people and have fun, that's what you'll find. Los Angeles has some of the nicest, kindest, most genuine people I've ever met in my life and I'm from the midwest. Transplants who never leave Hollywood are the ones who spread the "all of LA is fake" stereotype and it's unfortunate.
@Mortal_Disorder6 жыл бұрын
trinity casanova to be fair she said most not all but even that statement was too much for me. Like I said, this city is almost half Hispanic, most of whom are blue collar, most of whom either immigrated or are descendents of immigrants. The percentage of this city that are social climbers, and there are those, is small but we get defined by them which I fucking hate.
@Mortal_Disorder6 жыл бұрын
Colleen Michele that's why I mentioned those neighborhoods specifically. No one, or at least almost no one, trying to make it in the entertainment industry, in whatever form, lives in those hoods. They tend to stick to very specific areas and hangout with very specific people that make up a minority of this city. Like I said, if you like this city, as you do, that's awesome. If you don't, that's ok. I took offense to her saying most people are fake. I take offense that this city gets defined by one industry and a minority of the people most of whom aren't even from here. They come and eventually leave while, for the rest of us, this is home.

I just recently did the reverse move, from NYC to LA. I've definitely seen a lot of what you mention but for me, so far, LA has definitely felt like home, and I've met some great people. dip1955 Yeah, I saw a map showing where people move between big US cities recently and more move from NYC to LA than vice versa. Many in LA move to Denver, SF, Austin, and Portland. Many moons ago, my girlfriend and I were supposed to move to LA. It didn't work out, and I thank my lucky stars that it didn't. It sounds vapid and empty and soul-crushing. Best wishes to you in NYC, Steph!

LA is a place to tour, not a place to live. In my personal opinion.

Haha. Tell that to the people who are born and raised here. Most of us love this city. It depends on your lifestyle and the company you keep.

That's exactly what I thought. I'm from Houston and only been to LA for a week, but imo it just felt less like a city of locals and more like a town a really shady LA devotees.

I just found this video, and this is so accurate. I have family on both coasts, but NYC will always be a favorite. I'm from LA and everything you said is so accurate. There are good people here, but even as someone who grew up here, it's still really hard to find genuine people...and don't even get me started on work-life here...

Honestly, I'm not shocked (regarding fake people using others in L.A.). Keep in mind that many people move to L.A. in order to get their "big break." This isn't limited to being a movie/T.V. star or singer, but many try to hit it big on KZbin and other websites. It's one of the longest-sought dreams in this country's history: Achieving celebrity status. Sadly, many don't realize that very few get their big breaks, and they're told that they need to "know people" in order for this to happen. This is probably why that one girl lied about not knowing much about KZbin or social media. She saw a couple of people with a lot of subscribers and probably thought just being around or knowing these KZbinrs would be one step towards her possibly being a big KZbinr or social media star. Her intentions would have been made clear if she walked up and started talking about what a big fan she was of you and the other creators' content. I'm just conjecturing, so don't take what I say as fact. I'm basing this off of what I've been noticing about a lot of people who struggle to find an ounce of fame in Tinsel Town. Many move to L.A. thinking that eventually things will go their way, but they never account for the thousands of others that are doing the same thing and have the same intentions. Once they notice this, they become desperate and will do whatever it takes to achieve whatever kind of fame it is that they're trying to achieve. Sadly, because of this behavior, KZbin is becoming Internet Hollywood. But that's my two cents on L.A. Anyways, good luck in NY!

Great video! I like your honesty about your experience in LA. I agree with you that when you are in such an environment where you see people talk about their friends in their back, are obsessed with appearances, it is easy to not feel at home. I felt the same but that was in an work environment at a specific location and I decided to leave which I believe was a good decision because now, it is so much better at this new location.

I was kind of thinking that, it’s probably just the group of people she was working with but contrast that with people who are from there or live with a rich cultural network

I get what you mean completely! I've never been to LA but what you said at the end about being able to live in a place and love it without feeling like you belong resonated very strongly with me. I grew up in Yonkers (extremely close to NYC) and I love New York, I've always loved it here and I think the city especially has such an amazing energy and culture and history and I truly do love it, but after living in Vermont for 3 years for college, I realized that there was (and is) a lot missing for me in New York. I never realized how much I didn't feel at home until I left New York and experienced a world outside of this place and I feel like I truly know where home is now and I can't wait to be able to return.

Ha! I moved to SF from LA earlier this year cause I can't deal with a lot of the wannabes out there. Everyone is trying to be "Hollywood" and I'm over it. Soooo fake. I def see the difference in the LGBT+ community here from LA. I feel like the community here is way more geniune in making positive changes and not just doing it as a content for whatever platform they have. I'm happier now :)

Steph: I currently live in the Atlanta/Decatur area for just about a year and a half now but I am an LA Native--you are SPOT ON. I will be moving back to Cali at the end of this month to train in dance, but even then I will not be living right in LA--gonna compromise and go back to San Diego or maybe live in Vegas; that's just how much I don't care for LA since like 10 years ago. Ultimately I will build my dream home somewhere in the mountains where I can still have humidity, and that may not even be in The States.
