Elman belonged to a generation of phenomenal violinists. Each of them was fresh & unique: Kreisler, Szigeti, Příhoda, Zimbalist, Menuhin, Milstein, Zukerman, Accardo, Fodor, Perlman, Shahan, Mintz, Gitlis, Stern, Oistrakh, Schneiderhan, Kogan, Szering, Grumiaux, Hassid, Enescu, Ferras, Neveu, Rabin, Thibaud, Morini... to name a few... and the greatest of them all--- JASCHA HEIFETZ. There are lots of WONDERFUL violinists today, but they belong to a different era. I prefer the past.

Wonderful comment he made showing a humbleness when it was reported that he played like a God. His reply "you know God is perfect and I always try to improve!"

Thank you for posting this. My young daughter is a student of the violin and really enjoys his beautiful playing.

You can here them play a note in the background letting them know that the segment is running out of time and they have to wrap the interview.

Elman was so poised & dignified. The very epitome of greatness. Can we ever expect a kid like Joshua Bell to someday evolve into a man such as this?
