When I was in hs my friends and I cut across the main line and quarry tracks on the way to and from school. One day we decided to see if we could push an empty hopper. We could. Easy. Getting it stopped before it was out in 1st st was another matter.

At one time, the Quarry had 2 GE switchers. This one with the side rods, which I think is a 50-tonner. And one without side rods, a 44-tonner.

@@josephcipar3666 Actually at one time that quarry had three switchers they were all GE 45 tonners, at one time one of the three switchers ended up running off a track and fell into the quarry. the finial switcher left the quarry via a low boy trailer and if I remember correctly was going to a shop in Indiana for a rebuild then supposedly heading to Fort Knox Kentucky. this was in like 2002. Someplace I have pictures of it loaded onto the low boy trailer.

Is that yellow equipment is a railcar puller?

The yellow unit is a General Electric 50-ton switcher, used to pull cars around the Quarry property. Many of the cars were ex-Duluth Missabee and Iron Range ore cars.

@@josephcipar3666 i would see that little engine moving cars around from time to time. Anyone know where it is now? What is the quarry now. Still a Quarry or has it been repurposesed into something else. Just wondering. Have a great weekend everyone

@@davidurban6813 At least part of the property is used by the County for stormwater overflow from Salt Creek.
