I have watched EVERY elmsly count tutorial. Something wasn't clicking. Months and months i could not do it. So, i thought I'd do a simplified. Peel with my thumb. It worked but wasn't as clean as i wanted. I video taped tricks...it look okay. But i wanted to learn the proper way. Then i stumbled upon this gem of a video. UNBELIEVABLY HELPFUL, MAN! i nailed it in 20 minutes. The handling tips and the whole damn tutorial clicked with me. Thank you! Thank you! Dude, THANK YOU! i can do it properly!

The Siva count is very useful for most Oil & Water tricks where cards are easily recognizable very good tutorial. Subscribed as well

You do the Jordan count differently than I do. The third count is called the OPEC (Out of Position Elmsley Count) invented by Ed Marlo. FWIW the book "Counthesaurus" by Jon Rachenbaumer is the best book on false counts/displays.

I was taught how to Elmsley Count by Roy Walton so I've always been confident that my techniques is pretty good as he is an excellent teacher, but it is nice to learn other counts that do different things.

It would be great if you can place the various counts with timestamps in the description. 5:45 Jordan Count, 9:44 Siva Count

I need to work on my separation. Very good advice in your tutorial. Your rhythm is perfect too. I use the modified or popular handling but your advice still applies. I might have actually learned something with the jordan count as well because that is not the way I was doing it. That last count hiding the second card was impressive as well but what would you use it for? Never seen any routine using that.

Or an even better way to do the Elmsley would be to count from a dealing grip and not the pinch, then there is no need to re-grip. Not the way it was originally written but an interesting and more natural way of doing it nonetheless. Great video btw with excellent tutorials.

people may hear the difference in the thickness of the cards and suspect your counting. if you snap your cards.

what's wrong with snapping the cards?

just a suggestion, but you should turn the video by 180° for convenience.

Who has invented the jordan count and the siva count ??
@paulhamj61753 жыл бұрын
I know Charles Jordan invented the Jordan count cos I have his excellent book which you can find on amazon etc second hand. He was a very interesting creative mind. A master of magic! Check him out. I don't know about the other count.

It actually doesn't stay the same. Watch some other Jordan count videos and you will see what I mean. Just be careful cuz there are a few videos that show it wrong
@MrKeith7510 жыл бұрын
your Jordan count is wrong bro. you pull of the first 2 cards then put both back before grabbing 3
@darrongaddis3293 Жыл бұрын
I like this technique. Both work. Use what is comfortable for you.

Please everyone do not learn using this grip and develop a bad habit. Use a proper Elmsley Count grip because it’s far more consistent and much easier to hide an inadvertent flash. It may feel weird at first but using this grip here will do nothing but frustrate you and reinforce a bad habit. You will have to be so precise with this grip that it will easily bring attention to your hand from the spectator. Gripping with only a thumb and pointer finger allows a pivot point that’s hard to control without overly focusing on it which makes it look suspicious. Pinch with your middle finger and thumb with your index finger at the top to hold the deck squared up. The index finger up top will balance that pivot point where cards aren’t twisting anywhere. Watch Elmsley do it himself and it will make sense.

Siva count is pointless for most tricks... If you need to show that there are in fact 5 cards (face down) but only want to show 4 (face up), which is the reason you would be showing the cards face up in a trick. Thus, doing the siva count defeats the purpose of what your doing most of the time...
