That's great, but if you use a recorder with a standard vocal mic at a distance of about an inch or three (like a vocalist), holding the fipple (where most of the sound comes from) towards the mic's diaphragm, you can not only vary your volume by subtle variations in distance from the mic but also run it through whatever effects you want, if the front of house speakers are facing away and the angles of foldback speakers good, then you normally don't have any more problems than a singer would with electromagnetic-field hysterisis. Brilliant though, an excellent evolution for the beloved recorder. I've done the same thing with distortion pedals and so on. If you use a clean distortion and adjust it right you can get a quite convincing, reedy, bagpipe chanter sound. Due to the extreme speed possible on recorder, I've had question-answer battles with lead guitarists with all the versatility of open holes to bend notes up and down like a whammy bar (great for blues or wild psychedelic rock), powerful trills, percussive punch with hard-tongueing on every note, humming like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull through it, it is a fantastic instrument. Recorder is under-utilized in modern music but actually every bit as flexible as any other with a unique sound very close to a sine wave. If the recorder players of the rennaissance and baroque era could meet the demands of violinists as a lead instrument, they can just as easily now whack a distortion pedal (and perhaps an octave shift pedal or have back up higher and lower pitched recorders (I use a tenor, descant and sopranino for live situations) to meet the demands of licks played by lead guitarists. Lest we forget the greatest rock epic of history 'Stairway to Heaven' and the opening section's recorder consort. That's not quite true. 1. it is a special microphone, which was developed for recorders. So development costs. 2. the shape is completely new and the surface is provided with an airbrush, which is made by hand. 3. There is a lot of manual work on this recorder anyway. 4. In addition, it is not made millions of times, which in turn makes the price higher.

a desire has been born. I recently recorded and posted on youtube my version of the Telemann Sonata played here with the Elody (TWV:41-f2 if I'm not mistaken) as demonstration of it's dealing with older music. recording would have been so much easier with this attractive instrument. I wish they were closer to my budget, or that my budget was bigger...

I see this recorder is still available. It is very nice. There is a comment about the lead connector and your reply is that it is not possible to move it. It is in a bad spot. Should have carved a thin cable channel (on the outside of the body if necessary) and by leaving the mike where it is, place the connector toward the end of the instrument. A wireless transmitter would have been more practical, added little weight and size, and would have made this more innovative and better value.

Ha, this is awesome. Just a note, the correct English translation of "die elektrisierend coole Blockflöte" would be "the elctrifyingly cool recorder". You should add a wah-wah pedal / crybaby to the demo :) Also... someone needs to play Jethro Tull's Locomotive Breath with an Elody + Distortion !!!

I hope nobody spends $2,700 on this! Just take your existing recorder and attach a K&K Silver Bullet for the same result. The beauty in this is that you can detach it and use it with all your other wind instruments for $150.

MusicBeSweetYo First 2,700 $ are not the right price for the instrument. 2,360 $ Dollar is the correct retail price. You must include the 4 years development time into the price. And there is a most of handcrafting in it. But we have no problem to sell them. We are lucky.

Yeah, it's a problem, given that purely electronic and MIDI wind instruments such as AKAI EWI are available for around $600 (and cheaper options also exist). For the price, I'd expect more features, such as contacts near the holes to make it a midi controller too, and wireless audio and midi. With modern micro-electronics it would be feasible.

While this is a nice idea, it is unfortunately not practical. Because the sound of the recorder comes from the labium on the top of the headjoint. We tried a lot of positions until we found the correct one. If you put it down then it would be like the sound always reverberates.

You don't have to. It shouldn't be a substitute for it. It is only intended as an extension if someone wants to play pop or rock music with a recorder. You also have to amplify a violin in a PA if the music has electric guitars, drums, bass and microphone vocals. That was the idea.

One question. Why? For 2,300 euros you can buy a top quality keyboard synthesizer, that does SOOOOOOH much more, and still have enough left over for a good night out!!

The answer is very easy. Recorder player want to play recorder an not keyboard. Keyboards are sold by million of pieces and is made like series production but in a very high quality. So we sell only a few recorders of this type a year. And the most things on it is made by hand. So that is a total different way and so it is not comparable.

The effects are definitely NOT impressive (at least to me).. Don't really care for new look either.. However, there certainly is something to be said about a pickup amplification system inside the recorder vs. just putting a mic on the instrument. It would be interesting to hear a comparison between the two.

***** It probably plays nicer with FX, even if those FX are just EQ and a chorus. It also fits better in loud settings (see: rock band on tour). If I were to guess, the pickup is piezoelectric, so the sound can be compared to regular mic-ed guitar VS piezo pickup guitar.
