Good points raised. It is worrying. Just one bit I can't fully get behind - and that is the optimism that people will stand up to that amount of foreign pressure and interferring (whether from Kremlin or from Musk, doesn't make much of a difference). Are we sure they will? Some people absolutely will, as seen for example by the brave souls in Georgia, but will it be enough? I come from central Europe where there are now not one, but 2 countries sliding into eastern-style semi-authoritarianism led by "conservative" populist govts. Hungary and Slovakia, both hugely supportive of Trump and MAGA, which in return names especially Hungary as the model country. And that was all done without Musk's millions. I have very little hope that unless we employ some stronger methods in order to preserve our democracies, liberties and actual freedoms, that we won't be able to stop it in a year or two. We still have the means to stop this madness now, Twitter is not more powerful than the whole of Europe. Lone Brasil was able to enforce its rules on Twitter, why can't we? Ban it if we must, it's not like we need it for our day to day lives. Put harsh caps on campaign donations.
