I think what most people don't get is that he's not overseeing any of this shit personally. As evidenced by Twitter, when he tries to take matters into his own hands being confident he won't bung it up, he bungs it up in the exact way his engineers and advisors told him he would. You know what frustrates me. It's the fact that people don't understand at an extent large wealth is needed to start such ventures. If Elon did not financially back Space X and Tesla they would be bankrupt and we wouldn't have these inventions. Removing the extra sensors from Teslas to save costs is an absolutely baffling decision. If Elon was an actual engineer (he's not), he would know that having more redundancies is ALWAYS a good thing, especially when human lives are on the line. SO, IF ELON LAUNCHES THE THOUSANDS OF SATELLITES HE WANTS AND ONE OF THEM HAS A COLLISION WE ARE SCREWED Also: Starlinks and that kind of satellites emit a hell of a lot of light. Light affects and stains the images taken by telescopes here on earth. Now let's say the thousands of starlinks literraly make telescopes completely blind and we have the bad luck of having an asteroid coming to us. Without telescopes we cannot see the fucking rock, which means we can locate it and send something to stop it SO WE NOW HAVE A DON'T LOOK UP SCENARIO LADIES AND GENTLEMEN SO CONGRATULATIONS. A big thing about SpaceX is that it's a private company that is dependent on government subsidies money that could have a greater effect if it was given to NASA since less would end up in Elons pockets and go to research instead.

Yeah people tend to forget that the biggest client for launches and space stuff are government agency. Nasa is Spacex biggest client, and they pay well over the advertised rate, on top of funding resaerch and development. I might need to recheck but I think they actually contributed to half the development cost of Falcon 9, on top of them awarding them a juicy contract after only one successful launch of the Falcon 1which saved the company from bankrupcy.
