The baiting part is interesting. The bot doesn't know it's baiting. It just learned that anytime it had low HP opponents were more likely to come attack it so it started to favor intentionally lowering HP even though it's being told that damage is bad it is also being told kills are better. Crazy how it almost goes against what it's being told to do in order to do exactly what it's being told to do. Love it.

@localcrackhead29046 жыл бұрын
This bot actually is limited to only vision and APM because it isn't integrated into the game. Just like humans. The bot still has an advantage though, it can essentially play the game in slow motion because it's a computer.
@didjterminator8086 жыл бұрын
that is where our brains are different - we can see six minutes into the future (and sometimes even years at a time) but bots cannot, so they are just much more focused (and they have a better interface than us which helps as they don't need a keyboard, mouse, or monitor). if we where the same then the bot might as well kill itself as we would completely destroy it as we are always learning and adapting but a bot cannot do multiple things at a time as good as we can.
@CyberCactus6 жыл бұрын
It comes down to the fact that the computers can put more processing into the game than our brains can, and they can also dedicate 100% of their processing to the game, unlike us. We're multitaskers by nature, we do tons of different things per day, so a game will never really get 100% of our mind's focus. They can inherently dedicate more to the game at a faster speed than we can, so chances are we simply will not be able to beat them at this level. (however if humans are upgraded somehow in the future, who knows..)

That and the other team didn't know how to position properly and their tank wasn't the one initiating.

Paper Block, With Dota you have one consistent victory goal, one map, and progress towards the goal can be easily measured and then handed off to the algorithm to decide what the next generation should do. With Civ, I'd imagine the AI taking a while before it can even correspond certain starts to the correct victory type, and then factoring in what biases each Civ's AI should have. It really seems like it's a job that'd be better to develop by hand than it is to brute force with a neural network.

I think for this to be fair they have to artificially decrease the reaction time of the bot to match a humans. This seems like it's beating it's opponents simply by being able to instantly read and react to any change on the battlefield. There was one part where it was perfectly mirroring the movement of the human player not allowing him to get in range because as soon as the human player stepped forward it would move back, no delay at all. No human could ever do that.

@Maddinhpws6 жыл бұрын
It is pretty true though. Currently the bot can only play 1 char in a 1v1 mirror matchup. It would get rekt as soon as he plays a different character. Because it wouldn't know what to do. So they first need to get it to know how each of the more than 100 characters work. This will take a lot of time. Then it will need to at the same time process in how different each character matchup it can have is. This will also take some time. But next it will need to get all the synergies. What can each other character do together with each character. How does it gank correctly, etc. It will need way more funding to get this all together. Like it will need to play thousand of times the amount of games it played up to this point. And it already needed months to get to this point. And then it would need a computer that is as big as a house to process everything.
@usedtobereign6 жыл бұрын
It's not true at all, the 5 AI's would be programmed as a Hive mind, when all 5 bots think exactly the same no 5 individual players would ever be able to match this kind of coordination. Time is a very bad argument against AI's, they learn so much faster than humans ever will because you can run multiple simulations at once and they don't fatigue, they learn non-stop. It only needed few months to beat professionals who played multiple years. Also the processing power doesn't need to be that high because computers have the luxury of putting all ressources into a single task, contrary to the human brain.

This is just overdramatised bullshit. Why are you still amazed that a machine outperforms a human? Did you just time travel here from 3 centuries before? OF COURSE THE MACHINE WON!! That is expected. A calculator does not make mistakes, The human using it does. You divide a number by zero that is still a human mistake. You can match however many "rainmans" against a machine the machine will still win because humans deal with fatigue eventually. This bot is just another "aimbot", another calculator designed to do ONE thing very well. Even tho the machines can perform like this it will never be superior than humans, they understand numbers and the alphabet but they do not understand words. Without understanding words they can never understand what is or WHY to kill a human. I highly doubt current AI tech are able to even grasp Shakespeare and context and poetry and to explain it in modern english. If any AI can kill humans it is preprogrammed to execute that, not by AI freewill, it would just be another human error.
@kleinfeicht7 жыл бұрын
Bruce Wayne no it wasn't aimed to do this the only showed it what and how the game works and said win is good die is bad this actually is a programm who is learning not work with forced parameters.... and actually the do understand words you need to config it?
@brentc24117 жыл бұрын
The fact that the AI started intentionally taking damage to bait players, even though it had a set parameter that damage is bad, is disturbing because it shows the AI's ability to create a scenario where it kills all humans, to save all humans, even though it's programmed to never harm humans.
@johnbyng92037 жыл бұрын
Brent C that's trippy
@matthewandrews77 жыл бұрын
Yeah but one thing I will say is the parameters would also state that winning is more valued than not taking damage therefore if it wins and takes damage the bot would see that as being a worthy sacrifice.
@brentc24117 жыл бұрын
Matthew Andrews but it shows the ability to adjust them as it deems fit. So what would stop a similar AI from deciding to kill 99 people to save 100. Mathematically it's seems like the correct answer, but this AI solve scenarios with trial and error, so it could kill 99 humans to save 100 just because it was the first solution it thought of, rather than the best solution it could think of.
@thephilosopher71736 жыл бұрын
Karan lol got a lil *too intense there bud. They expressed in the video that the parameter was set to basically 'damage=bad' so the Ai is going against that for the prioritized 'winning' parameter even tho it goes against the initial parameter about damage.
@matthewandrews76 жыл бұрын
Karan I think you’ll find in the video that they stated that they pre-programmed the AI to understand that getting hit was bad. But as we have just discussed the AI through trial and error figured out that to achieve its main objective - winning, taking damage was something that had to be done to fit the play style that would win the most.

What I don´t understand is how anyone thinks that a AI WOULDN`T win in a game that is at least to some degree dependent on physical skill (memory, agility, endurance,...). I mean, no offence to DOTA and it´s players, but it is a game in which a machine simply has an inherent advantage over humans (unlike other games where man vs. machine was tested out like Chess or Go). If you heard there was an armwrestling competition between a human vs. a machine I bet your money would be on the Bot as well because obviously it´s going to be able to physically overcome the limitations of the human frame.
@oddluck41806 жыл бұрын
101grifter Except people are saying that this test removes most of the actual difficulty in Dota 2. The test boils down to reaction time and accuracy for the most part.

dont play dota, just lol, but they are quite similar and i watch dota sometimes. im sure there are others but one advantage i can think of is cs. a bot will never miss cs unless it is programmed to. it would also hardly miss skillshots or get hit by any (evident in the use of scripts in lol, idk about dota) mechanically in a 1v1 a bot will always win. but in a 5v5? it gonna have a harder time

I imagine we shouldn't view the bots as competion, but simply as a tool to allow training to be MUCH MUCH more efficient by introducing new methods that have never been thought of before simply because we are used to competing against other humans, and the tactics that work against ourselves are the best because pro is human vs human. However, professionals could constantly train the bot and in turn train themselves even further, as using the bot's tactics would force the bot to adapt to it, which the professionals then learn from and then keep progressing. I hope we get to see something like this in other MOBA's such as LoL.

@0x20pirate6 жыл бұрын
In this case the application of the baiting strategy is unique because it worked against the AI opponent. Here's why it's special: each bot knows (in a sense) of the items the other player has onhand. The bot knows when the player is too low mana to cast a spell, but could not know about the mango approaching on courier from fog. It's the fact that the mango was hidden from the other player until the split-second it was used, that caused the bait to be successful.

@alekmabry80626 жыл бұрын
And the funny thing is that a neural network doesn't even require that much processing power to run. It's just has arrays of numbers that serve as the "hypothesis," or essentially the formula for creating an output based on inputs. After that it's basic array calculations which graphics cards are extremely well suited for. The only computationally hard part is training the network, but if valve can train VACnet in 6 hours with a single TitanX, using data from every match of every hacker ever caught, then the only hard part left is figuring out the most efficient way to train 5 new bots.

The number is smaller, but still enormous. Current operation power of a super home PC with 8 cores and 4.2GHz? It's highly likely that if you started processing round the Big Bang that, when the Universe comes to an end, you still won't have your answer :-D We're close to the Infinite Monkey Theorem.

It has 1 champ and 1v1 currently which makes it a reasonable assumption that we are far away from a bot that is good with and against 120 heroes. You can just compare it with humans: A human could learn to 1v1 with one champ really fast but when comparing that to 5v5 with 120 heroes the complexity and effort to learn how to handle each interaction is exponentially higher to that point where it would take forever.

But imagine if they made the AIs so that when one makes a decision, the other 4 can follow up on it. So instead of playing against 5 independent AIs, you’re essentially playing against 5 AIs with 1 brain. That sort of teamwork would defeat any human communication.
@acetraker19887 жыл бұрын
Yeah that was a logic fail. Sounds like a challenge. it is within theory one could bot every interaction in the game, an you could farm up the best combos in a lab for xx patch. That not only can each bot understand their role, the character they using, they could plan and react to attacks instantly. A team of 5 bots sharing countless scenarios would be unbeatable. You could even bot the match picks. Also beating an AI has no value, as the AI will learn and get better the more it looses. e.g. AiBot with 200k games is fun times if you win but AiBot 1million? 100million? 1 trillion games? No end cap.

That's the whole point of this AI. A lot of people seem to think this AI was specifically made for DOTA 2 but it's just that DOTA 2 is the perfect testing ground. The developers are trying to improve this AI to the point where it can take in way more complex data that it can handle and learn 5v5 match-ups. If it can achieve that, then it can learn other works as well such as engineering a building while taking into account materials, area conditions etc. Creating newer models for predicting weather. Simulate cancer treatment over and over until it reaches a better treatment than what modern medicine is able to do.

@user-zz4eu6tm2t7 жыл бұрын
Limit in terms of the amount of "tasks" of certain complexity requierements within one progress. You can always feed more data sets into it, new variables, more things to consider, thats no problem. However it takes much more clever human thinking there because you need to weight all of these variables in order to recieve the desired results

Maybe not impossible. But probably take way longer time. 5v5 in dota is infinitely more dynamic than 1v1 dota (SF lul). But that said, I wonder how a trained team of bots would react to Rat dota.

Humans are funny. "Yeah, technology is constantly developing at an increasing rate, but I choose to make the same mistake as everyone who lived before me and expect things to remain the same." And this happens just after he should have got that attitude beat out of him in 1v1.

@davidchalmers67537 жыл бұрын
Alex Zhou before this boy they would have said the same thing about a single bit beating them. You would only need to spend a little money on more processing power and the boys could learn to do a 5v5 in as little time as you wanted to contribute processing power. The person who said that in the video is an idiot for this single statement.
@microwafel99077 жыл бұрын
6 years? i think WAY shorter
@YumiYumY7 жыл бұрын
Not sure about this one. Knowing the game and the dynamics of it. There is no actual "perfect 5 men team who can beat anyone" in a game like this. There are just way too many possibilities to change the flow of game. Don't know... 1v1 and 5v5 can't be compared really.
@astermaxwell24637 жыл бұрын
um no he is right to a certain extent. 1V1 is a pretty linear way to allow the neural net to run through and eventually figure out optimal conditions. 5v5 is different. as you saw the guy said that the bot doesn't "feel" or "think" it calculates. you could do things with 5 people that a bot would be unable to prepare against as the possibilities or events become so many that to put it simply the required processing power and storage capacity to actually counter a 5v5 matchup would be very massive. The difficulty for OpenAI would be to optimize their code to use less computing power. Its gonna take a long time to reach that point.
@davidchalmers67537 жыл бұрын
Aster Maxwell that moment when you validate my claim by stating the fact they would need more processing power. We like to think as humans we are super complex to the point ai can't follow our actions but it's just not true. With more processing power the bot could experiences eons of dota in mere hours. A 5v5 is trivial as you scale the power.

Vindiel Hellsing thats the point of an ai thou, ai's process information and adapt to situations, except they're only limited to how much information they can process. Daniel White You don't understand, this IS surprising due to how complex Dota is. The skillset (things you mentioned like hesitation, misclicking, perfect aim, etc) of the bot wasn't what mattered, the true achievment here is making the bot a srategic mastermind capable of adapting to all circumstances. The bot is also capable of thinking of new strategies on the spot because it has intelligence and can recollect data from previous games. Big step forward for AIs! Artifical neural networks are advancing rapidly.

It would have to be in a MOBA or game similar. The reason being is in a game like a FPS just a regular coded bot has significant advantage due to perfect aiming. Just the regular coders who make aim bots could createa team of bots that could stomp any csgo pro team just due to their perfect aiming and not actual intelligence of the bots.

This doesn't seem difficult to program. All you need is to configure the ai to track cooldowns and program the exact ranges of enemy attacks with a few LOS checks and team combos. The only reason it would beat them is because it already knows exactly when your attacks are on cd, which means it can play aggro. once your abilities start coming off cd, it does a check whether or not it can kill you before you can kill it, and it will make a decision whether or not to continue with the attack. It's like saying you programmed a bot to beat CS:GO pros, and the bots just have a 100% accuracy aimbot...

It blows my mind that the ai could invent it's own strategies that pros had bever though of and what's more is that the developers, the people who CREATED it, didn't even realize what it was doing till it worked! How can a robot do something that it's creators couldn't even imagine it doing! We even see in the video that they talk about it like it's an intelligent creature they're studying but it's something THEY CREATED. This is truly pushing the boundaries of where robots end and humans begin. So bizarre to think about.
@LetTheWritersWrite7 жыл бұрын
Matthew Wong But you're making it seem like it's an organism. It's not alive. It's simply trying to solve a math problem over and over. That's all computers do. The outcomes are still confined within the limitations of the algorithm. It's the same as to running math models or simulations to study the outcomes. Artificial intelligence is just a marketing term.
@DeNorali7 жыл бұрын
LetTheWritersWrite It is an organism. It is alive. In an abstract or at least alien sense, it very much is alive.
@RiceCracker877 жыл бұрын
That's the fascinating thing though isn't it? It solves problems its involving issues it's never been exposed to, it invents strategies that not even pros had though of. Like Alexander Nielsen said, in a way, that's the stuff of life.

But if you look closely, every decision in life is a mathematical calculation, and math describes the properties of everything in the universe.
@physe80527 жыл бұрын
There is a very long discussion about this topic, so the short version is there are a lot more factors that result in consciousness and in particular the human mind than one would think. A computer will always be restricted to numbers, equations, inputs and outputs, etc... Humans, on the other hand, have a thorough grasp of concepts a computer will never be able to truly comprehend such as emotions, aspiration, self-awareness, etc...even a fully realized artificial intelligence would still only be able to comprehend a small fraction of the reality we experience: observational data. A machine can only ever work with existing conditions. It can not and will not ever be able to do something that I would argue is central to the human experience: imagine.

They could make the same thing with Overwatch, but the problem is that you could just put 100% hs accuracy on a McCree and teach it proper positioning and that would be it.

Jonseredi you really dont need to make an AI for fps games. You can just turn on your aimbot same thing.
@Jonseredi7 жыл бұрын
Did you think about what you wrote before you commented it? Saying that you don't need to make an AI is correct because technically you never have to make an AI. The point is that if they were to implement this AI to other projects (games) like Overwatch it would be obsolete. Turning on aimbot is obviously not the same thing, I have no idea how anybody could draw bridges between those two, wow.
@germansniper52777 жыл бұрын
Jonseredi just forget what I said man, im A stupid piece of Human garbage that doesnt know anything.
@pr0gengoo967 жыл бұрын
proper positioning and accuracy is still half the cake - without game sense and team coordination the mcCree would get owned - just stay behind a rein shield and shoot the fvker Now if they implement that on a WHOLE team and balance it with proper team comp...then is another story Still would like to see how the bots get toxic against a torb on attack XD
@Jonseredi7 жыл бұрын
You don't really need those with 100% hs accuracy and proper positioning. Proper positioning includes not pushing far enough to have yourself get shot from behind a rein shield. Also you have to assume that the scenario is neutral which means that the McCree would then also have a rein shield and if the McCree's team isn't capable of playing properly then it should be assumed that the opponents couldn't play properly either. Basic game sense is also assumed since it's an AI that needs to be able to play to begin with. So the only thing it would lack would be team coordination, but after proper positioning a McCree doesn't have more to add to the team as using his ultimate is relatively weak. 0/5, OpenAI McCree would rekt.
