It's not a personal vendetta... Bri is an avowed socialist and sees billionaires as the ultimate cancer of society, therefore any action Musk takes should immediately be treated with hostile suspicion at best. The only problem I have with that mindset is that it's alarmingly close to the fanatical thinking that can justify unjust punishments, torture, and even mass death in order to bring about the "utopia" where billionaires and poverty no longer exist.

I don't believe in censorship anywhere. I believe it literally creates insanity. However, if you're going to only censor certain nations, it's best to keep the censorship out to those nations who are raging imperialists... Like the US. If you can temporarily censor speech in India and that ad revenue can be used to keep the platform afloat in the US, it might be worth it in the long-term. This is the problem here.... It takes money to run these platforms and if he has no ad revenue, you have no Twitter, then you're handing the narrative control over to KZbin and Facebook which are decidedly less free.

I'm firmly against the censorship but I understand complying when it's your wagies risking persecution. Those folks just wanted a job, not to be a martyr.

She seems to believe that if Musk is prepared to comply with authoritarian regimes like India or China then he ought to comply with the demands of democracies.. the difference is that the Australian government can't just tell you to take stuff down. it has to to comply with its own law otherwise it'd be a race to the bottom for government censorship - something that the federal court of Australia has recognised.

I lived in Melbourne during the lockdown and we were all shocked at how hard and fast it all went down. It was so quick, before you knew it, it was normal life to not go more than 2k from your house or be out for more than an hour. It was crazy. Once I left I realised I would never allow myself to be put under that dictatorship again. I hope Aussies remember who they are and fight back against this battle for true freedom.

@@travisearl771 I was lucky, lived in Georgia at the time. Restaurants and such closed for a few weeks. The gov'na officially re-opened society on April 24, 2020. I think the schools came much later, but I'm no longer in school so I was unaffected personally. Not everyone was ready to venture back out. There was no traffic, we buzzed right in, parked wherever we want. Nowhere was crowded, got into a bit of day drinking. It was interesting.

Thanks Robby for keeping Bri in check. I know Bri seems sympathetic to free speech but her progressive bias does damage from time to time. We need more support for free speech in the world and Musk seems to be risking so much for that. I think that he seems to be trying to be consistent, even against the business profitability of X. Notwithstanding all his efforts, Bri seems unable to give the guy more credit and support. Yes he may not reach the absolutist goal that he seems to desire given all the constraints, but he has made a lot of progress and doing way better than other platforms, with serious security and negative business consequences. Musk is literally defending free speech across several countries in the world and we need more Musks, not less. Keep it up Robby and hope Bri can do better going forward.

India, Brazil, Australia, but also Germany and other nations have made these requests and he has complied for their people.
