I really don't like Elon but I kinda agree with him on this. It is censorship of news, but then, we don't actually have protected freedom of speech in Australia. As an aside, I'm getting pretty frustrated not being able to comment on a lot of Australian news stories because comments are turned off, or due to post removals and shadow banning. Traditional media tell us what to think, often creating controversy where none exists, and then also moderate and manipulate the public conversation about the topic. It's maddening.

PM doesnt even understand what he's talking about. Elon Musk's social responsibility is not censorship, and it's not about the Sydney stabbing incident, it's about following the law and nothing more because when you go further than the law you are dictating and censoring, good or bad, it doesn't matter. What is good for one viewer may be bad for another. This is an extreme example being a horrific incident, but where do you draw the line? and who decides. Let's also not forget the main stream media blast us with horrific footage constantly even when reporting on this subject. What disappoints me as an Australian is that the PM doesn't even bother to look into Elon's reasoning which is well documented

Personally we can decide what we want to watch or not, if a person wants to incite others to riot etc then I’m sure the police can find who that individual is a charge them if they have committed a crime. Having the government decide what they consider to be misinformation is very scary. As an example lots of ppl believe Israel is protecting itself in its bombing of Gaza and lots of people believe what they are doing in Gaza is genocide. So if we have government decide which they believe it is defense or genocide then obviously one side gets censorship and we don’t get to decide for ourselves. So I’m with no censorship but if people are advocating committing crimes then prosecute them. Having twice been charged and convicted for “affray” here in Australia I can assure you when the police “want” to charge you they bloody will lol.

My comment is logical rather than focused on Elon. Of course, the Australian government can ban content within Australian territory, but how can the Australian government request a global ban on the same content? If this logic holds, then Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and Venezuela could also ask for a global ban. Is this the right approach?

Agree it is overreaching. Disagree with other jurisdictions having to abide by other governments. Let's not reverse the situation thank you very much. I'm sure the Australian government won't want to be forced to abide by laws of other countries. Disagree with censoring. We are sovereign, born free human beings, and I did not cede my sovereignty. I do not agree with the Australian government's obstinate stance. It should take responsibility for its own actions and inaction eg the deafening silence at the time of the attack on Israel, the massacre and kidnappings. Perhaps we wouldn't be experiencing such confusion and tumultion in society had the country been led with firm values from the getgo. Its issue with the X platform pales in significance and seems to me, a smoke screen for more sinister intentions.

We have movies that have censorship on adult and violent movies on censorship categories. So why can't governments have video media on adult only categories.? This is not freedom of speech, but the already established rules that were agreed on many years ago. So how can large media companies have the last say. This is not free speech, but an already established set of rules. So they say its hard to do this, but with AI software, this shouldnt be that difficult. Millions are made by these media groups, but they will not take responsibility for media indiscretions.
