Hiring immigrants over Americans is the same as (or actually far worse than)shipping the jobs overseas. The American cultural issues stem from learned helplessness, from working your ass off for a job making great money for your company while your benefits still decrease to only get laid off and have the jobs filled by foreign workers either overseas or in the great ole US of A. It's happening in every industry, blue collar or white collar tech, it doesn't matter, from mid-west steel to Austin tech it doesn't matter, we are being sold out, it is still America/Americans last. Bet-David wants us competing with slave wages in China, India, etc. lol. The American way is Americans competing with Americans in the American marketplace, from the American job pool in the American system to benefit Americans, it isn't globalization. If Elon wants American money, he needs to hire American workers. This is really the same as sending billions over to Ukraine etc..

I don't believe for two seconds they don't know the difference between visa types. They want indentured servants. I have seen this working in tech in corporations. One trick is to make salary bands really wide. Then have a few token highly paid people at the top and a lot of visa workers at the bottom. Then the company can claim they always pay within the band. Rarely will a visa worker complain because they are desperate for a green card. That can go on for years and years. Also, the visa slave traders always make sure they provide people with the latest "skills and certifications". So management just picks from the menu and that's why in-house training in many places is no more. Since this has been going on in the country since the 90's it has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. An American worker that wants a good salary, a career and god-forbid, a life, is lazy and dumb. I could cite many more examples, even more blatant, about discrimination against American tech workers in their own country. I voted for Trump the first time because he was the only politician who actually had the guts to stand up to this. But here we are again.

American Electrical Engineer, these companies arent struggling to hire .... they are struggling to retain. The amount of people with a "former-X, former-Tesla, former-SpaceX" insert in their linkedin profile followed by CTO or CEO and running their own thing is ridiculous. High turnover because of money chasing efforts, much like Mr. Musk's move in 2021-2023, have killed the engineering interest for many. Once you grind through your expensive labor pool locally, you either adapt to lower standards through training, or source elsewhere (H1B).

I am a Computer Science new grad (BSCS). Started applying to software engineering positions and quickly realized I was in trouble. I worked my butt off to switch careers and do well in school, build a solid portfolio, and prepare for technical interviews. However, I was met with a harsh reality… Most of my interviews were conducted by Indians (especially big banks) and they were rude, hard to understand, and had no intentions of hiring someone outside of their culture. Stopped with private sector and Started applying to software engineering positions in government and defense contractors (No H-1B acceptance). Focused on positions that required a security clearance. I was hired as a software engineer within a couple months of applying.

On the American culture, Vivek is 100% in the right here and nailed just about everything. He's calling for a return to a culture that strives for American exceptionalism. That absolutely is and should be a core tenet to the MAGA and America First movement.
@JRRLewis13 күн бұрын
Where in his lengthy comment did he call for a return to American exceptionalism? All I read was him attacking American culture as inferior, as an excuse of why we need to import cheap labor to replace American workers. He didn't attack participation trophy culture, grade inflation, or DEI. He attacked long-term staples of American culture like sports, sleepovers, and not spending all your time studying math tables. Trump, by the way, was one of the jocks that Vivek was attacking as a sign of American inferiority.

So you think it's okay for corporations to exploit American workers at lower wages and more hours per week?
@cynthiatrimble530111 күн бұрын
Do you realize that Americans work longer hours and have less time off than the majority of all the nations around the world? Do you realize this is a tactic based on a lie to flood our country with workers from third world nations thereby driving down wages for everyone and leaving our citizens ( who are more than qualified) without jobs? Do you realize these visas are issued for all types of jobs including McDonald, teachers, nurses, trucking etc. Wake up and fight back. This insulting and degrading of our country, our citizens and our culture is unacceptable and a lie. We have plenty of people for those jobs and we have kids drowning in student loans who get passed over while we pay for the education of foreigners and give them our jobs. This is about greedy oligarchs exploiting our people and our country

Did he really believe the Right is like the Left when it comes to blindly following charismatic leaders? We've been burned so many times by both sides of the aisle that everything anyone says is picked over with a fine toothed comb. MAGA regularly criticizes Trump himself for his blind support of Israel and coof jabs, but at this moment in history he's still the best choice we have. Musk is fair game if he steps out of line. He's not an elected official and can be dispensed with at any time.

My ex has a masters in mechanical engineering and fluid dynamics. He works (at least) 80 hours a week on salary, and I broke up with him sadly because he had no time for a life outside of work. We’re still friends and he does see millenials as lazy, but I wonder what he’s comparing that to. No one’s entire life should be work. They get used up and spit out. Same goes for education to get to those positions. Trump says he’s trying to bring jobs back here and not have us compete with global markets that pay pennies for labor, but same goes to supporting the educations of Americans too. STEM has been the biggest push, and I’ve seen it happen that they push these degrees so they have more competition amongst candidates and can pay them less. It’s not that they are not qualified, it’s just more people competing for the same job which is what they want.
@kittylemew397413 күн бұрын
Elon is not censoring genuine people who disagree. He was referring to bots and trolls trying to spread discord. We shouldn’t bicker and break up over such a small issue. If immigration represents $12,000,000 we are breaking up over pocket change.

There's no way to become the richest person on the planet while being morally just and ethical. I like some of the things he does and says, but this is a slap in the face of the country that allowed him to become what he is.
@edreynolds872114 күн бұрын
@jr2904 he was headed to being the richest man in the world before he even came here and I believe that's because he always thought outside the box and was the first to do the things he did. You're absolutely right with it being a slap in our face though but I think you can become the richest person in the world without being corrupt by thinking outside the box and having luck. Not every wealthy person is corrupt or morally bankrupt unless they become greedy. I think he's becoming greedy but for a different reason than usual. I think he has to many companies and projects going on at the same time and it's causing him to become greedy. If he wants to correct this and redeem himself, he needs to stop some of his projects. Tesla vehicles would be the first thing I'd stop doing because the world isn't ready for that yet and they still aren't efficient enough even though they're the best in that category. Those are a big waist of money and although I think it's great, starship is also. No one but wealthy people are going to be able to afford a ride on that and it is far from being perfected just like the vehicles. Maybe scale it back and scale back the vehicles because those look like two projects that are draining. The technology and abilities the star ship project has are better than anything and will save everyone in the space industry money but he needs to stop with a passenger space ship and just stick to reusable rockets and different ways they land them.
