@FarzadMediaINC What makes Deepseek efficient is that the team came up with a lot of new ways of doing things, these clever optimizations when combined end up having a multiplicative effect which increases efficiency by a large factor compared to other models. Other LLMs can copy these new methods and get a similar improvement in efficiency. Tesla uses an end to end neural network. The Deepseek breakthrough mainly applies to LLMs.

One of the big inference efficiency boosts was they used 8-bit weights instead of 32-bit and got similar accuracy. GPUs are made to process 8-bit weights because computer graphics are 8bits per color component. Tesla's AI processors in the cars were built with AI in mind and it's possible they optimized for 32-bit weight calculations by stripping out all this legacy 8-bit compute for graphics. So they may in fact not see this improvement, even if this approach was applicable to them. The other efficiencies were model design and LLM designs are not applicable to vision. Different problems.

The amount of stopsigns..... We used to have them all over the place. Due to better infrastructure design it's hard to find one here in the Netherlands.

Why would I cede my free will, my ability to make real-time decisions, to an industrial product? Convenience?A promise of safety in the space I inhabit with so many others? The fact that your ability to communicate your vision, at near real-time speed, and without making many noticeable mistakes, is indeed impressive. It almost appears to be FSD. And when someone like me calls you a "fanboy," you should probably slow your roll a bit and ask if there's some truth to what I say.

The real hot take here is that what Deepseek has done for training and inference to improve efficiency, using configurable FP8 or CFP8 and memory compression, is part of Tesla’s efficiency strategy around Dojo hardware starting in 2021 that likely carried over into it’s latest massive H200 cluster. So if anything is true, Deepseek is following Tesla’s lead.

Very soon you will order your new Tesla and have the choice to pick it up at a nearby service center or it will drive to your home unreal what this company is doing.

As a Tesla fan who's been very pro FSD... After getting a Tesla, one issue I have is that cameras can get dirty/snowy etc etc and there's no way to clean them while driving... I know the new model y has a jet to clean the front bumper camera but surely there needs to be something similar for the other cameras (except the front ones which are covered by the wipers). Surely software alone isn't going to solve this one? This isn't something I've seen discussed too much in the Tesla bill community
@JJs_playgroundКүн бұрын
Agreed. when I look at how dirty my car gets in winter, not sure how they will solve this issue without water spray for the cameras.

The side pillars have heaters somehow for some models. I am sure Tesla is worrying about this for new models. I guess the car could just drive to an automated car wash?

I ponder how much human behavior has been studied by the dojo. We saw the car recognize a hand gesture a few points back but also has to know what to do with cops directing traffic and the percentage odds of kids on scooter turning into the road or joggers suddenly using the crosswalk. I’d say there is a ton of behavior it already knows. That brain inside Optimus. Is. A game changer

I don’t understand the argument about why inference on an LLM generalises to self driving.

Having self-driving on cameras only sounds a little scary to me. There should be some additional radar or something. Plus how are they going to address bad weather, low visibility and a lot of reflections...
@kstaxman222 сағат бұрын
Radar only adds problems. We as humans drive fine with sight to guide us.

It is impossible for any Chinese company to beat Elon Musk's Tesla in the future, which has more than 10K satellites providing navigation, its own high-speed internet connection, the best AI, can be manufactured completely automatically, has a humanoid robot, and has transportation facilities even to Mars. Those who have bought Tesla shares clearly know that.

@Dave-cf4vd22 сағат бұрын
I don't feel that way. I know way too many people who are out of work already, due to AI. If Musk succeeds he will: 1. kill 5m driving jobs; 2. kill white-collar jobs; 3. kill blue collar or manual labor jobs.

LLM algorithms do not apply to vision. The so called breakthrough is only on the textual data, vision models are way more complex.
@FlintStone-c3s18 сағат бұрын
Vision is simpler, LLM need to hold everything in memory, vision uses much lower memory, frame by frame. Some vision can be preprocessed in the latest cameras before getting to the computer.

At the end of the day, all autonomous vehicles need the ability to read signage. And a system that can read signage has solved for computer vision. If you've solved for computer vision, then other systems are redundant. Everyone else is climbing their local maximum

Yes, HW3 still has a lot left to give. It will take a lot of effort to redesign the full stack to use mixture of experts (assuming it’s possible for an already specialized task), and people are probably already doing the cost analysis of upgrading HW3 to AI4 vs effort to redesign/retrain the model along with a massive amount of testing. It would be a change equivalent to v11 to v12. It may be the right decision long term, the question is how soon it becomes necessary.

The whole Roomba thing puzzles me. Lyn Alden also dunked last week on robot vacuum and it got me thinking wether Americans don’t have access to Roborock? Roborock has long ago solved robot vacuums. They are great, min vacuums and mops the floor, empties into the base and self cleans the mop there too. It can detect everything around it and notify me about rouge cat toys under the couch. Roomba is not a good gouge of vacuum robots.
