This song and this entire album was constantly on my mind when I visited San Diego just about two years ago. It was the first time I had been back there in nearly 25 years. I had spent half my childhood visiting my grandparents and hadn't been back there since my grandma had past away. I felt much like the time traveler of the ELO album Time. I couldn't believe how much the world had now changed. San Diego was still the awesome city it had always been. But it just still wasn't the same greatness that it had been in the 80's and, much like the time traveler of Time, wanted to go back to my happy childhood time in the 80's and see my grandma Edith again! "Remember the good old 1980's, when things were so uncomplicated" -- Ticket To The Moon by ELO.

In 1981 this song was only released as a B-side to the Hold On Tight single. I sympathise with you - I heard this in the summer of 1982 on vacation in Norway with my parents. I was 14. We had stopped at a cafeteria where it was on the jukebox, I was amazed - it obviously was somehow "part of" Time, which i already loved, but I had never heard it before or known of its existence. I played it until we had no more coins left and had to leave, scribbled the lyrics down on a napkin, and then never heard it again, until I bought the remastered CD version with bonus tracks released in 2001.
@MidosujiSen Жыл бұрын
@@lhpl It took you 19 years to hear it again, god damn. You must've lost your mind when you saw that on top of this, there were two more Time tracks in that 2001 CD.

@@MidosujiSen Well, _the Bouncer_ was new to me, but _Julie_ had been played a few times on the radio, so I had recorded it on tape. But as for _When Time Stood Still_ I only had some of the lyrics scribbled in haste on a cafeteria paper napkin. (Which I have since thrown out, alas.)

I love all of the interpretations here! I agree with another comment that he is stuck in some kind of void, formed by technology. That opening sound is the data and information being processed, notice how it gets faster and faster (Moore's Law)....and then ultimately it collapses on itself @1:58. After which there is nothing left. No memory/memories, there's nothing worth measuring, and there was no more. Artificial Intelligence at its end - and it's haunting.
