Live never fails to surprise me, which is why I love it so much 😃 Even features and functions that I've been using for years I'll one day just be playing around and realise, 'Hey, I've never thought I could use it like that!'. Finding the tools you use to make music inspiring is such an important thing and Live certainly excels at that. There's a lifetime of play and discovery in there 🤓

You are correct - its just nested within the Drum Rack. I'd recommend reading up/watching some videos about how Drum Racks work, because they're pretty powerful! If you want to go really in depth, this is a good place to start: www.ableton.com/en/manual/instrument-drum-and-effect-racks/

Sounds great! Although adding a color limiter after you're randomized the velocities in the drum track kind of negates that 'humanizing' effect... Yes, the sound is better with the limiter on, but there's noticeably less dynamic range.
@ELPHNT6 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed there will be less dynamic range but if you listen its not really negating the effect of the randomised Velocities, it still has the same humanised feel. You'll even see that the Colour Limiter is only actually applying Gain Reduction when the kicks hit so the level of the hi-hats isn't really being compressed at all, although their tonality is being affected by the saturation component of the Colour Limiter.

How do you just assign the melodic step to the hi hat in the first example.?
@ELPHNT3 жыл бұрын
Drag it directly onto the Drum Rack pad of the hi-hat only, so that it's inside the Drum Rack as opposed to sitting before the whole Drum Rack.

All these plug-ins and sequencers are / were previously available on Max4Live.Com, that too for years ... Repackaging old tricks and plugs is OK, However Ableton as a software is basically done-with - without Max4Live it's just another DAW.

@capitanmission6 жыл бұрын
why to use scale after melodic steps? more options than the built in scale selector in the step sequencer?
@ELPHNT6 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly, just more options for how you can map the output to different scales.
@capitanmission6 жыл бұрын
ok thanks, great videos man! I m exploring the new devices. the sequencer is nice but I think that the mono sequencer is better for me, I will love that ableton change the gate sequencer in it for a probabilistic one like the one in melodic
@ELPHNT6 жыл бұрын
I haven't actually used the Mono Sequencer so I'm not 100% sure what you're referring to, but isn't the Chance control in Melodic Steps like a probabilistic sequencer?
@AndreGMendes6 жыл бұрын
Hi ELPHNT! Can you tell me if all the parameters on the Melodic Steps such as the "dice" and the sequencer steps are mappable? I'm asking this because if they are then they can be reseted using Clyphx.

@ELPHNT4 жыл бұрын
No, you'll need Max For Live which is included with Live Suite or available as an add-on for Live Standard.
@anonymousbrowser44486 жыл бұрын
The big issue i have with max for live is the added latency. No matter the device, it's not compensated for. Just try adding a device and resample it to compare it with the dry sound. You'll see the dry sound in time and the max for live one behind. I'm honestly really surprised no one seems to notice/care. Coming from fl studio and comparing the max for live envelope follower to the fruity peak controller made me angry because it doesn't work as advertised. I tried sidechaining with it and it's delayed and has clicks etc.. I hope this gets fixed someday
@elvishpretzely91736 жыл бұрын
Yeah m4L is still pretty glitchy :/
@redlobsta1 Жыл бұрын
In the case of "Melodic Steps" - does anyone know how you can right click on the randomize button (dice looking button to the right of the # of steps) and map it to a macro? I am trying to be able to launch trigger clips in a big template to trigger a randomize setting on Melodic Steps.
@ELPHNT Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you can't. My guess is that its by design, otherwise you could map something to it that would 'cause it to trigger fast enough that Live would crash.
@redlobsta1 Жыл бұрын
@@ELPHNT Gotcha, I did figure out a work around though, using TIP to store different snapshot presets of it, and then mapping TIP to a macro, which would then recall different presets of Melodic Steps - but not exactly the same as randomizing.

Great walkthrough. Coming from modular: can you modulate parameters with LFO or something? Or only via automation?
@ELPHNT6 жыл бұрын
Yep, just tried it, can confirm 👍🏻 I hadn't thought of that, nice one! Turns out you can even modulate things like the sequence length in Gated Delay and Melodic Steps, which could make for some wild patterns!!
@cuba19566 жыл бұрын
That's pretty great! I recently got Clouds in my rack and pitch hack seems to provide similar granular synthesis features - sounds really awesome, by the way. I'm a huge fan of weird and crazy delays and reverbs. By the way, I've been using a some of your older plugins on a few of my first videos (before I went dawless). Tape plugin is fantastic. Thank you, mate!
@ELPHNT6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Pitch Hack is actually very similar to Ableton's Grain Delay - very granular. The Reverse control is unique though. Re: TAPE - thanks! I use that one on pretty much any track I make 🤓
