Elrond | Goodness

I genuinely don't understand why Elrond is not the main character. I have no problem with Galadriel but from a storytelling perspective, Elrond's development practically writes itself. He has a childhood trauma or two, he's been abandoned multiple times, he's an outsider due to his parentage, he has some legendary friendships, and a sweet romance for when you need it. Just his familial ties alone (half man, brother to the first King of Numenor, third cousin to most important Elves) would open endless opportunities for various conflicts. You have a ready-made protagonist whose background gives you the chance to explore many cool themes. Why not use him to his full potential?

Because the writers were clueless on what to do with him and Amazon thought it was a good idea to just throw money at things to fix it. There was a reason these showrunners went uncredited for Star Trek: Beyond and if the hubris isn't clear enough now I don't know it if ever will be.

@@technewsgadget I definitely believe that the showrunners' inexperience is to blame for a lot of things. However, as I mentioned in my first comment, Elrond's backstory is written in such a way that the writers wouldn't really need to think a lot. Choosing not to have Elrond as the protagonist is taking the difficult route. He's an outsider with the Elves, so he would feel like he needs to prove something. He's half human, so he would feel more sympathetic towards the Men's hardships. His brother was the first King of Numenor, so it's only expected that he would try to protect them and form strong diplomatic ties. He's knowledgeable in various fields so he definitely had experiences that helped him familiarise himself with those. I'm not sure if it's a rights issue or some executive said "no, Elrond is not recognisable or marketable enough", but they really shot themselves in the foot. And they failed to give Galadriel's character the room to breathe and develop as a character. I like Galadriel and understand where they're trying to go with her character, but they haven't done any favours to her character.

Elrond is a main character. There is no MAIN character, it's a coral series.

I think in 2nd seasons he will be the main character a long with Earendil as Galadriel already gave up her warrior instinct she might get sideline in Season 2 as the story will now focus on Numenor's downfall..

finally i could watch this! i think the actor who played Elrond brought so much light and innocence in this role, it was so heartwarming to watch. for me his friendship with Durin was one of the best parts - i'm all here for some elf dwarf bromance! i love all the beautiful aesthetic scenes in this video which highlighted his bright and calm character so well. such a wonderful tribute, love love love it

Exactly. And to see such innocence fade away when he realises why he must fight, why he must take up arms(in s02). The bitterness in his face, oh..such transformation in a meaningful way was portrayed brilliantly by Robert.

This was q great video for my fav Elf. I've always loved Elrond and I really see that Rob researched his character. You feel Elrond just knows things he isn't saying but can talk his way into anything. He's very sweet and pure and just how Tolkien described him. Rob has done amazing here and hope we see so much more from him in season 2. The 2 episodes with no Elrond I was so sad. That deep voice is so relaxing. He really is connected to all the major players so he should be the lead.

I think the reason why they made Elrond Durin IV's friend was because of how the Khazadum Dwarves aided Elrond's forces during the Battle of Eregion and Lindon against Sauron.
