Lee Pace is just such a great actor!!! Thranduil is one of the most interesting characters from the Hobbit-Trilogy!

It just sad that Thranduil wasn't consider to be a powerful elve
@martyadams31723 жыл бұрын
@@uclamnguyen1459 Actually, he is quite powerful. According to the appendixes, Sauron fought the last battles of the third age on several fronts, and the day of the battle of the Pellinor, he also sent orc armies into Mirkwood to attack Thranduil's Kingdom. Thranduil's army kicked ass, and utterly defeated the army of Sauron. Anyway, the point is, that Sauron thought Thranduil was enough of a threat that his kindom was singled out for destruction, and Thranduil and the silvan elves proved him right!

@@martyadams3172 I know that he is powerful the moment he kinda sense the present of bilbo wearing the ring but most people just think that he is just another silvan Elves

@@uclamnguyen1459 total agreement. I'm one of those who have read most of the books, and still really appreciate the movies. Lot's of things in there that simply weren't addressed in the book, "The Hobbit" (which was a sort of "prequel",) on which Tolkien based his later, more extensive books. Nice that we "nerds", actually do have some knowledge of the differences in the various races of elves, their connection (or not) to the Valdar, their migrations and how the various elven homelands came to be and all that stuff. The Silmarilion is the book that has the real history of the elves (and men and to a lesser extent, the dwarves )in Middle Earth, and worth reading for true fans.

@@martyadams3172 Yeah same. I know most of the books and still appreciate the movies. Although there were some adaptions, Peter Jackson grasped the soul/spirit of what Tolkien wanted to convey through Middle-earth.

Fantastic!!! I was expecting a vid with Thranduil/Elrond for awhile, I love then both, even they are extremely different from each other. Thanks!!!!

Actually... Thranduil is *technically* NOT one of the 'Protectors' assigned to middle earth. He never held possession of one of the Rings of Power. He was simply a Great King. Though often lead astray through emotions, he used his power to help preserve and save his kingdom and people. He's truly an interesting character. I encourage you to look him up!

I know you made this comment a while ago but... Protectors of the Earth is actually a song from Three Steps From Hell, as well as hurt. Though I truly agree with you in the fact that he is an interesting character.

How is thranduil related to Elrond?
@martyadams31722 жыл бұрын
@@chrisrcolbert He's not. Well, maybe very peripherally, but Thranduil was one of the "grey elves", Noldor originally, who decided to stay in Middle Earth (not make the trip back to Valinor,) and were then called Sindar. Elrond is a mix of all three of the original races of Elves: Vanyar, Noldor and Teleri plus men, as well as a Maiar. Fun Fact, Thranduil fought with Elron, Isildur and Gil Galad in the War of the Last Alliance of Men and Elves, leading the army of the "wood elves" after his father Orophor was slain in the first charge.
@martyadams31722 жыл бұрын
took me awhile to try to find anywhere in Tolkien's books about the rings assigned to "protectors". They were not. They were for the leaders of the High elves. The rings went to three of the earliest of Elves, who are the eldest of the elves of Middle earth in the third age. One, Gilgalad gave his to his great friend, Elrond for safe keeping at Rivendell, and one went to Galadriel, the granddaughter of Feanor (who made the rings) and Gandalf wore the third, passed to him by the Valar after the death of King Fingolfin, again, to keep it safe. Thranduil, not being a Noldor or 'high elf' did not have a ring, but he was still one of only three remaining "Lords" or in his case a King of elves at the time of the Lord of the Rings. The rings basically kept Rivendell and Lothlorien hidden and safe with thier power, so could be called "protectors". I give Thranduil loads of credit for keeping his kingdom safe in Mirkwood, where the evil of the Necromancer had been closing down in the rest of the forest. He had his own magic, and managed without a ring.

What happend with Thranduil in the end? Did he also leave the middle earth?
@tomescuandreea7 жыл бұрын
It is said that he continued to rule Mirkwood after the War of the Ring,until the Fourth Age,but it is not fully known if he went West to Valinor after presumably Legolas became king or if he died in his lands.
@charlescannon67757 жыл бұрын
Eylnor the Ranger I believe that thranduil stayed in Middle Earth and remained King. And that Legolas went on to valinor with Gimli and the rest after the last battle at the gates of Mordor
@martyadams31722 жыл бұрын
@@charlescannon6775 Legolas did eventually go to Valinor and the utter west after the death of King Elessar. He and Gimli did not leave immediatly as they stayed first to see the wonders of Fangorn and the Crystal Caves. Then helped to restor Gondor and Itillian. He took Gimli with him, making Gimli the only dwarf to ever set foot in Valinor. It is supposed that Galadriel made this possible because of Gimli's great love and respect for her. What happened to Thranduil, we do not know.

ale Mirkwood was attacked by another legion from Dol Guldur. He and his people successfully won that battle. Later he decided to allow Celeborn to watch over the southern parts of the forest, while he ruled over the north. But it's nowhere said whether he stayed, and if not, when he went west.
