This is an aria that requires a well-trained voice, great breath control and the finest musical skill. Miss Dreisig has all of this and more. Bravo. And kudos to your accompanist as well. I loved every moment of this worthy presentation and if Rachmaninov could be listening from up there, he would too. ❣️

Your feelings are VALID. This was written to mourn the millions killed in WW1, one of the most brilliantly stupid wars of all time. Mourning is.not negativity, it's humanity.

@@johnhalverson2849 while I would like to believe he wrote it to mourn the senseless deaths of WW1, I can't find any evidence of that being the case.

I love Elsa Dreisig in some repertoire but this brutally reveals tuning difficulties, and the timbre often gets pinched and nasal, and registral transitions are not at all smooth. A vocalise doesn’t need to be sing on a wide open Ah vowel - the vowel can be varied, and often pushing it towards an Ooh makes emission and control easier, and adds depth to the timbre.

Sehr aggressiv, leider absolut am Thema vorbei! So darf man Rachmaninow nicht singen!!!
@marieantoinette38574 жыл бұрын
Why does she need to open the mouth so much in middle register?? Aja, with no support it is impossible to sing legato, trills etc. I totally forgot. How stupid of me. She would help herself a lot by standing straight. The top is so strained. She is already developing a wobble in the back of the voice. It will become bigger with years. I mean it is a vocalise, if you cannot sing this, you are done. Finito.
