Hi! To anyone struggling to kill the fleas, there are bug-bombs for this exact purpose! My dog AND cat both had this problem, so me and my family had to treat the pets, house, yard, and even went so far as preventative care for ourselves! I hope no one else has to struggle through this but I wish you all good luck!!

This really helped understand the annoyance of fleas! Just gave my dog Bayers tapeworm dewormer, gave him his first treatment of K9 Advantix II and cleaned the patio and whole front yard with IGR and DE, also put some IGR inside the house where I think there might be the biggest problem, cleaned the whole house from head to toe with a flea killer/ egg spray and hopefully this solves my problem 🙄These fleas man!

My cat eats tons of food so I'm sure he has some type of worms. Not these however. Also I'm pretty sure my dads dog has some sort of worm. But only reason I think that is cause he shits in the house like every single day. Also he seems to stay up at night a lot, too. My pets however have none of these symptoms like scratching their bottoms, or constipation etc. Not sure what to make of all this. Although we do have fleas and I'm trying to get that und er control as well

LMAO! Thank you. Great animation! PS, diatomaceous earth kills Arthropoda. (Silica powder, no pesticides. ) Sprinkled sparingly in baseboards, windowsills, thresholds, under pet beds, etc. Note: this is NOT instant! Leave it in place. Can take a month. But it Does work. Have used it in homes all over Florida. Where fleas, etc, are a serious year-round problem.

Thank you for this fun educational video. Currently, there is a flea infestation at my household. We have 5 cats, a dog, and two ferrets. All the cats and the dog have fleas, so we've treated them accordingly. However, now my dog has the telltale sign of tapeworms via rice grain covered doodoo. So time to up our prevention game by cleaning like war is upon us. Ugh 6 months-1 year is gonna be such a long time to deal with this...

Excellent and informative thanks. I noticed these segments emerging from 2 of the cats that live on our farms bottoms this evening! I feed a little diatomaceous earth daily as they are outdoors cats and were here when we bought the place. Obviously th DE is not sufficient to destroy this tapeworm but I am worried I will make the cats which are at least 7 years old very ill if I worm them for the first time now? I had bad results when I treated them with flea drops as after a few treatments they only seemed to become heavily infested with ticks so now I just dust them with DE when they are unwittingly otherwise occupied (they are not the tamest) and they seem in beautiful condition. ?.obviously they are eating all the fleas when they groom?...and they are always hunting and eating wormy fieldmice etc so I thought the daily regime would be best...but now I am thinking it is not enough. Any advice would be gtatefully received. Thanks again!
@elsevetchannel8 жыл бұрын
I don't see how dewormers would make your cats ill just because they've never been given any before. If this was the case, every kitten receiving its first dewormer would end up in hospital. DE mechanically damages parasites but it's not a really reliable tool for controlling or erradicating flea infestation. If you want a good, effective product, you should consult your veterinarian. By the way, I don't know of any flea drops that would somehow increase tick infestation - there must have been some other factor in play there.
@helenfay94658 жыл бұрын
Thanks for responding. I will use a dewormer 6 monthly on the cats then. Is there any specific ingredient to look out for that is effective against these tapeworms or will any worming product take them out?
@elsevetchannel8 жыл бұрын
Whoops, I missed this comment. The usual drug of choice to kill tapeworms is praziquantel. Dewormers with anti-tapeworm action should contain it. However, being infested with Dipylidium is not just a worm issue, it's a flea issue as well. Deworming you cat every six months will not prevent it from getting re-infected soon afterwards if fleas are still present.

Else-Vet I am having constant stomach pains and seeing seasme seeds in my stool I am convinced I am infected. can you please tell what are the risks if this isn't treated?
@elsevetchannel7 жыл бұрын
Dipylidium segments look more like rice in fresh stool. I guess they resemble sesame seeds a bit if they lose moisture, but I bet you don't leave your poop around for days to dry out. Dipylidiasis in humans is mostly asymptomatic, but could cause intestinal disturbances if there is a large worm worm burden, which doesn't really happen to adults. I don't know of any cases that lead to death. Go to a doctor, tell them your problem and they'll run a fecal exam or prescribe you an antihelmithic.

great as always. Thanks. means a pet should be very very very unlucky to get them considering that not all larvae eat eggs, and how small amount of adult fleas can be eaten. I guess it can happen to stray animals but if a pet is clean then the risk is ridiculously tiny.
