I think you should make a video where you rank your least favorite song on each album

Hey John, Happy New Year! I've been away for a bit, but I'm back with a spate of comments: * Elton also opened for Eric Clapton when he was on tour in 1970. They were supposed to do a joint tour after The One, but it only lasted a few shows. * I didn't know Kate had recorded "Candle in the Wind" as well! I should check that out! * Matter of opinion on Tina Turner. I've always loved her voice, and I love her version of "Bitch". Her first version, whether intended or not, would have been a wonderful act of defiance after leaving her abusive husband Ike to bravely strike out on her own. * Liz Rosenthal wrote in "His Song" that if Phil Collins and Bruce Hornsby had gotten together to record either "Burn Down the Mission" or "Madman Across the Water", with Phil on vocals and Hornsby on piano, it would have yielded far better results than what we got with each of them performing separately, and I tend to agree. * Sinead's "Sacrifice" is gorgeous, and notably the only track that was not from Elton's classic 1970-76 period. It should be noted, though, that there were no covers of the 1981-86 period because MCA Records, who put together the tribute, didn't have the rights to Elton's songs from that era, since he was under contract with Geffen in the US and Canada at the time. * I always loved George's cover of "Tonight". This recording came from the same tour he did "Don't Let the Sun" on. I wonder if it was the same show.

Excellent background as ever! I forgot to read Liz Rosenthal's book on this particular recording. She has some excellent sources of information. Glad to see you are back with us. Honky Chateau news breaking this week.

Fun fact: it's Elton, who plays piano under a pseudonym on Come Down In Time here.

Yes - he uses the name Nancy Treadlight.

I didn't know that.

I like this album, it's by far the best EJ tribute album up to now. My favourite tracks: Daniel - Wilson Phillips, like their choir singing and the saxophone, very sweet version Rocket Man - Kate Bush, lovely voice, very atmospheric, best cover version of this song Your song - Rod Stewart, like the instrumentation, especially the violine, and Rods voice is always great. Sacrifice - Sinead O Connor, her voice fits perfect to the song, read somewhere that the piano player is from the former German band Spliff, very simple playing, but effektiv.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the tracks again, having given it a wide berth for a few years. I didn't find Daniel that exciting but the others you mention are decent, if not very fine, versions.

I agree wholeheartedly with you on the standout tracks on this album - Joe Cocker, Kate Bush, and Sinead O'Connor.

Yes, they are very very good. What do you make of the others?

Hornsby and Sting do nice jobs with great songs. The rest I can take or leave.
