This song came out when I was in Basic Training . My wife and I had just gotten married in 1983 and this song became very special to us. Now 39 years we’re still together.

His post '70's material is so overlooked. I would recommend "The One", "Little Jeannie" and "Empty Garden".

The little "doo -'doop" lick you like in the verse, is Elton's nod to Elvis' "Stuck on You." Exactly the same feel.

Elton has so many to choose from! 1 that comes to mind is Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and another one would be Tiny Dancer! Maybe you could play them next time! One other thing, Eltons' lyricist is Bernie Taupin! He came up with those imaginative lyrics! Ciao!

Elton John "The One" is my FAVORITE of all his songs... And that says A LOT bc I love all of his songs. ❤️ (original version). Major goosebumps! Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmalkIV7jMqBma8 His song "Sacrifice" is actually tied for 1st place. Here's the link to that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKOvnIeQp7WNd5Y

I had the pleasure of seeing Sir Elton probably 20?? years ago. It was just him and a piano, no band, no stage show, just music and I absolutely loved it. Then he played one of his more classical, piano only compositions and I realized that I was sitting in the presence of the Beethoven of our era. He's a rare, amazing talent.

An incredible artist and master of his craft and an amazing writing team; Bernie writes the lyrics and sends them to Elton who composes the music around them. They seldom collaborate in person and the result is an amazing catalogue of music.

This a great tribute to those soda shops and high school days way back in the 2oth century. The Stray Cats have an equally nostalgic tune to remember those long gone times as well. It's called, I WON'T STAND IN YOUR WAY. Being the romantic we all know you are watch the video to get the full dress rehearsal of the song. Brian and the boys hit the bullseye with this one. Keep a tissue nearby. You'll wish you were there.

This was a single from his comeback album in 1983. After being blazing hot from about 1971-76, he cooled off considerably. Part of it was not working with Bernie Taupin for a stretch, but also drug issues.

FYI this is the same band he had back in the early 70s (70-75), when Elton was more or less on top. It's hard to mistake those backing vocals. And back to the amazing quality and speed of the writing of the songs. The album was written and recorded in two weeks. And just about every song is fantastic. My fav non-hits being Cold as Christmas, Saint, and One More Arrow.

You could spend weeks reacting to Elton's songs, but while his 70s stuff is the gold standard, he does have some great 80s tunes past the hits as well. I like Blue Avenue in particular, but also Crystal, Stone's Throw from Hurtin', Two Low for Zero and Sartorial Eloquence.
