It is so bizarre seeing these old interviews. I was a huge Elton John fan as a kid, I was 13 when this interview took place, and have never seen him interviewed. I had no idea he was gay, or even what "gay" was back then. He is about as gay as a gay guy can get and I never associated it with his flamboyant personality. I just thought back then he liked crazy costumes but it is an integral part of his personality. Now after so many decades, I've come to accept gay sexual orientation but would have been horrified back then if someone had told me what it was all about. All that said, what an enourmously talented man. I'm only now beginning to appreciate what I loved so much back then.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that a few of the actors in those show are most likely part of the LGBTQ community and who they love has no bearing on their work. Elton John has always been a bit shy (Except when drunk- look it up, read his book), but when he gets on stage, he's almost a completely different person. For example, just listen to his voice! Here, he's talking and his voice is quiet, but when he's on stage performing, or you listen to his CDs, his voice is huge and loud and powerful. Also, somehow I thought this song was released in the 1990s, not the 1970s. I know there was a version re-released when Princess Diana died, but I thought the original version was also released then.

Thanks for this video. It's nice seeing him so youthful. I wish he'd tried a lyric or two. He seems witty enough.

56 year old straight white American male here and imo what I think this genius, epic, legend stands for is the purest of art, expression and emotion. What would my generation have done without the likes of Elton John, David Bowie, Prince, and as far as musical groups go, the absolute greatest in history. Radiohead. Gen X, the luckiest and best time to ever live. What happening to the world now is tragic!
