Some people never die because the beauty of their artistic work or their exemplary human behaviour still moves people centuries after their death. Sir Elton deserves to be one of them.

*Born to win, I'll love him and his music til'the end of times. Sir Elton John has been the soundtrack of my entire life since long, long time ago.*

Elton: "When John [Lennon] died, it really did affect me a lot. I still can't believe sometimes that he's actually not there. I was living in Paris at the time, and not going through a particularly good period of my life. I was very depressed, and I wrote an instrumental called _The Man Who Never Died_. I really like it a lot. And Taupin wrote _Empty Garden_. I was so impressed with mine, but when Bernie came up with the lyrics for _Empty Garden_, I didn't think anyone would be able to say anything without being clumsy or cheesy.

I love this beautiful tune - the remix is on the CD single of The Last Song, and the original version is the B-side of Nikita. It is just as good as his similar Song For Guy in my opinion.

True don't know how some of the acts who have their own channels get one before Elton and Billy Joel has a fairly recurring channel.Elton I would think would have similar appeal.

This is in the same league as 'Song for Guy', yet it's completely unknown. Elton is doing a good job of not dying so far, keeping very active with touring.

@fartwell2000 Elton once said: "When John died, it really did affect me a lot. I still can't believe sometimes that he's not actually there. I was living in Paris at the time, and not going through a particularly good period in my life. I was very depressed, and I wrote an instrumental called 'The Man Who Never Died.' Wow...and they called this a B-side?? Beautiful instrumental...until it hits you at the 4 minute mark :-P
@ClassicTVMan1981X13 жыл бұрын
@ROSterling77 Actually he wrote it in December 1980, shortly after John Lennon's death, but did not release it until 1985, when it was used as the B-side of the "Wrap Her Up" single and also appeared on the '90s remastered version of the "Ice on Fire" CD.
@xrockangelx14 жыл бұрын
@ComeDownInTime "Empty Garden" is also written in tribute to John Lennon. You seem like someone who probably already knows that, but maybe it's an interesting fact for someone reading. =)

1:00 - Best part of the song is the Yamaha GS1 synth by itself.
@vco84508 жыл бұрын
I know he used a GS-1, but isn't that a CS-80? It sounds a little too analog to be a GS-1.
@ClassicTVMan1981X6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, thank you... CS-80 I agree to now!
@ClassicTVMan1981X Жыл бұрын
@@vco8450 Also agree since the GS1 came out in late 1981, and this was recorded right after John Lennon's murder in December 1980 or January 1981.

Much as I love EJ, this song is quite repetitive. Should be only two or three minutes long. It's lovely, and pretty, but way too long and redundant.
@hannaht13897 жыл бұрын
Wow, I thought it could be even longer. It's hauntingly beautiful.
@scottthrower76377 жыл бұрын
I wasn't comparing it to anything on the charts. I was comparing it to itself. Elton is very talented; repeating a hook over and over and over isn't his most shining work.

C'est une version inspirée ou ayant inspiré Song for guy (1978) dans des arrangements 1985 ayant pu inspiré JM Jarre ou Eric Serra ?
