Elton John

Күн бұрын

The “Don't Go Breaking My Heart” video was shot all in one take with a three-camera setup by Mike Mansfield. During the instrumental section, Elton attempts to teach Kiki a version of the “hand jive”, a 1950s dance that would resurge in popularity with the release of the film Grease.

Hi Dave. I saw Kiki in the musical, Blood Bothers by Willie Russell many years ago in London. She was terrific. Not only did she have to act, but she had a couple of the most tear-jerking solos I've ever heard (in context). A real trouper in fine voice and such fun to watch play.

When I was 18 in the 1990s I used to work evening shift in the local supermarket and the manager who must have been a massive Elton fan used to play this full blast to motivate us while we mopped the floors before closing at 10pm. One Christmas all the lads had to wear Santa hats during the shift. Whenever I hear this song it immediately reminds me of mopping the supermarket floor in a Santa hat.

A historical note here... Elton originally wrote this song as a duet to be sung with his idol & good friend Dusty Springfield, whose career was in a steep decline in the USA. Unfortunately Dusty was in pretty rough shape at this particular time (alcohol & drug abuse), and so the song went to Kiki Dee. So sad. This was a huge hit and would have reinvigorated Dusty's career.

This is so awesome, she seems tense and uneasy in the beginning and Elton draws her in to loosen her up. She's all in midway through the song and looks and sounds awesome!!!

Gimmick or not, no matter here. I would not know my own name if he were that close to me; much less be able to carry a tune...or make words. So much respect for this man.
