I'd pick 17 as I very much value battery life and would also prefer to game on a large screen while traveling. And thanks to small bezels it's not much bigger than a 15 inch laptop with normal bezels. And while it has amazing cooling, it's still 200 grams lighter than my current Dell G3

@@ishootnow I got the MAG-15 fully equipped and and it plays games without a problem(it does get a little warm and the fans turn on) but that's expected with a laptop. I play things like Destiny2/wow/black desert/and CoD and I have no issues with frame drops or anything. If you're doing normal browsing or just watching KZbin the battery sits for about 6-8 hours. (my mac book used to only last around 3 hrs). The keyboard is also very nice as it is mechanical and each key has its own cut off(so you don't hit other keys while typing). The camera is not good- it'll work fine for video calling but it seems to have a blue light issue that might be able to be fixed with some tweaking, but that's really the only complaint I have is the camera- However, windows face rec works great. I have mine fully loaded so if you have a game you play that might be heavier than what i listed let me know and I can see how it fairs.

So it comes down to Larger + Thunder vs Lighter + Cheaper, and I guess the performance difference can be easily tweaked in both to reach a margin of error.

I watched bobs review of these laptops and yours of the max 17 and max 15. I was going to get the max 15 at first. However I learned about the mech 17 with the rtx 2070(max p) 115-125watt with the i7 9750h with 16g ram and 512. Storage, just for 1600 dollars! The mech is a bit bigger then the max ,but I am about performance. And the mech seems to Handel that, but at a smaller price. So thanks for the review of the max laptops. I have ordered the mech 17 from Amazon on July the 27th, it Should be at my door step on this Tuesday. I wouldn't have found this laptop if it wasn't for you reviewing the max 15 and it's amazing price. So for that I thank you. You really did save me about 300-500 with a laptop of the same specs and likely one of less build quality.🤓👍

what gives with manufacturers holding out features like thunderbolt 3 for the 17" versions?! annoying trend. Jarrod, I just pulled the trigger on the ASUS GX502GW!!!! Took me about 7 months of research to finally land on it. I was comparing every detail about the MSI GS65 vs the Zephyrus S, vs the SCAR III, vs the blade 15. Thanks to you, I made my choice based on gaming performance primarily which was easy to do with all the plethera of information you put out on all of 2019's gaming laptops! Thank you Jarrod. @@kurtrussell2966 yeah that's right most are borrowed review units that go back when I'm done unfortunately 😥 Thunderbolt is fast so good options for using docks etc. Some people like it for possibility of using external graphics enclosure which they think offers future upgrades, but it's a niche solution and over rated for most people

Hey Jarrod, I'm considering getting the Max 17 because it seems like the best option for quality/price among laptops with 2070s, but I'm slightly concerned about that thermal throttling for the longevity of the laptop. Do you think opting in for the liquid metal cooling upgrade would help alleviate some of the high temperatures? As always, great video

Thanks! It would help but without testing I don't know if it would entirely remove the throttling, it may just make the clock speeds better. The temperature will only drop once it can sustain max boost clock (unless you define the max lower), but I'd like to think that with extra undervolting and a stand would go a long way.

I think I'm going with the Max 15. Under 4 lbs is insane. That's better than the new MacBook Pro 16. Their price for 2 TB storage and 32 GB RAM is amazing. Jarrod, do you know if the wifi cards are able to be upgraded for wifi 6?

I'd expect that to be possible without issue, but don't have a WiFi 6 card to test with.

The review and comparison videos on this channel have been very beneficial. I am close to pulling the trigger on the Max-15. I think the money, size, and weight savings are just too good considering everything else is pretty much equal. Also, some VR setups need DisplayPort to work and that's not present on the 17". Given how close Intel has been with the design of these Eluktronics laptops, it's fair to assume the company wouldn't transition to AMD CPU's. Even still, though AMD is demolishing Intel in the desktop market, I'm wondering how long it will take for them to compete in making high powered, power efficient laptop CPU's. I've been watching your videos for awhile now, constantly waiting to pull the trigger on one but curious to see what Nvidia has with Ampere. The odm will have ryzen models I think. I believe Intel were only involved with the mag chassis, which is why I suspect these have higher thermal limits as they had more control over them, but yeah definitely some design elements shared between them so win win! Cheers!

Personally I'd try get the same stick again as some machines like Aero cry with incompatible memory but for the most part I think it's fine as long as you match speed / timings and preferably size.

any system you have to have same ram speed and CAS latency, other than that brand technically shouldnt matter. in my experience, its best to sell or repurpose the old stick and buy a new set. i tried buying 1 with my 15x and it wouldnt boot with it in any slot. sent it back and got a set, runs like a champ. been about a year since that

Depends on price difference, i7 in the Nitro will perform better, especially if you undervolt and overclock it the same as the Helios.

I am a full time superbike racer/teacher and RV wanderer documenting my life for youtube and patreon fans. Video editing 4k footage lately from (2) gopro7's, and my Note9 camera. Sometimes having to sync 4 layers of onboard race cameras which really slows down my Vegas Pro 17 timeline on my 2 year old GE63RAIDERVR7RF. I note Vegas Pro uses CPU for most tasks and only used my GTX2060 10-20% during rendering. I actually took my Ge63 backpacking Thailand/Malaysia so lighter is always better, however the plastic case and later broken hinge mount was disappointing. When considering max17 vs max 15 I think best for price /gpu power rtx2060. 17" better for workflow, but not so much backpacking. Tough choice. When in my RV I also have external monitor when doing huge timelines with multiple camera angles. I also consider Triton500 w/i7 9750H option. For using Vegas pro what do you recommend and will the cheaper GTX 1660Ti 6GB do similar with vegas cpu driven editing?

Hmm not sure about Vegas specifically, but with Premiere I find little difference going above the 1660 Ti, I think it's a great sweet spot for video editing, and the 9750H is also great at he moment. It's probably worth waiting a few more weeks, 8 core AMD CPUs are coming soon which may be mainstream for not too much more money and that may be a game changer for video editing, won't know for a few more weeks though.

Not at this time unless they send me the MAG-15, doubt they will ship it from US to AU just for me to compare though. I basically covered the same chassis as the Vapor 15 but don't think it has an Eluktroboost equivalent so not really confident to make a dedicated comparison video calling it MAG-15. Basically I'd go MAG because I want the 15" size with big battery, mech keyboard, full size SD and TB3. If I just wanted game/GPU performance, then MAX.

Hi. I just got my brand new MAX15 (or Aftershock Vapour 15X), battery life for me on normal internet surfing has been a measly 1hr 10 mins. No where near the 295 mins you clocked. Any advice? Specs are i7-10875H, RTX 2070 Super, 16G RAM.

I only tested XPS 15 with OLD rather than IPS so hard to fairly compare, the OLED is superior in most aspects. As for temps, from memory XPS caps power limit after a few mins so it stays cool, but performs worse as a result. max 17 will do much better with the same chip.

Thanks, I'd probably get the MAX due to bigger battery and SD slot, also lighter and thinner if I recall, but that's my personal preference. As for the difference between 1660 Ti and 2060, this video should help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmackGCloZ17bpo granted the Helios has a more aggressive CPU undervolt by default so may do a little better.

i'd choose the 17 for the battery alone. bigger battery is always better, considering it's a laptop, a PORTABLE f***ing machine. everyone undercuts the importance of the battery life, battery optimisations in regard to the disabling of the gpu while on battery power or something close to that. it seems idiotic (in my opinion at least) to market a laptop, be it gaming or not, without considering making some software tweaks to reduce gpu battery consumption while unplugged. from all the reviews i have seen though, this laptop seems to handle all that the best in my opinion. as a side note, @Jarrod"s Tech keep up the videos you're making! for me, they are the most comprehensive reviews on youtube. thank you for making these videos, and as soon as i get an Eluktronics laptop, i will get back with a reply saying whether you were right or not (especially regarding battery life) cheers mate! and all the best to you!

A bigger screen is always better and of course weighing the same as other 15 inch laptops is a game changer. Only bother to buy a bigger backpack but that isnt an issue while travelling bcs i often already carry big bags for starters. School shouldnt be a problem either bcs all my books are all the size of a 17 inch that made me use a big backpack, a max 17 would be an easy choice, atleast from my perspective 😌

Regarding the gaming performance of the Max-15 on battery, I would say it's not just your particular laptop. I just now tried it on my Max-15 with RTX 2070. If it was on battery, I was getting 10 fps or less, and there was a lot of input lag. When I plugged it in, it immediately jumped to 60 fps and was very smooth. I was running with the game settings auto-configured by nVidia's GeForce Experience.

I prefer 17" as it's easier to read without resorting to Windows Scaling, plus I will use a laptop primarily as a home computer that will almost never leave the house, so traveling bulk differences are of negligible importance.

Thanks! Same as almost all other laptops, RAM/disk/WiFi is all you can upgrade. CPU/GPU soldered to the motherboard and cannot be changed.
