One thing i love about this game is that even though the enemies are still outlandish in a Final Fantasy sorta way, when you get to the core, the enemies become very serious, both in design and character. Yeah, they still have jokes and what not, but they're not bare bones or meant to be funny, these guys are a tad more serious about killing you. This guy managed to make these last enemies both serious and humorous, and i very much like how he did this. This is only rivaled by my opinion of the Kingdom Hearts enemy designs for Hollow Bastion. Just brilliant to me in every way. God, now i wanna play this again. Shit.

You gotta love how the monsters here are incredibly strong. Froggit and Whinsum look like they've had their own fair share of adventures and have been through their own enlightenment. At first, Froggit and Whinsum where a bit...er, cowardly, considering they don't know what you, the human, are doing at first, but are flattered nonetheless. You can still joke-around with the enimies you encounter in CORE, but their replies tend to be more one-worded, as their more focused on attacking you than anything else. Bullet-paterns become much more hectic, and enimies not only appear tough, but are. They're certinly not there to play games with either. Whimsalot looks like a battle-hardened warrior, fighting for the sake of the Underground. Final Froggit becomes more thoughtful and aware of it's actions, and other enemies, such as Knight Night and Madjick seem like they've been on their own journey as well.

It's not that surprising. The melody in the background subtly hints at Megalovania, which (perhaps subconsciously, which is why you can't explain it) brings to mind both what's to come, and also the first song that you (and nearly everyone else on the Internet) heard and associated with Undertale before you even played the game.

This is the last thing Gaster heard before getting scattered through time and space...Wow, man. I'm jealous. But honestly, I love the fact that, while sharing its melody with Another Medium, it has a completely different feel to it. Another Medium really felt empty, showing how Hotland was a wasteland, its techno vibe reflected the fact that the area was very technological. The music was deep, and it made you slip into some trance, as you walked forward. It made you feel Hotland's heat and emptiness. Hotland felt long, but not because it was long-it felt like that because it was relaxing, entrancing, a bit like Waterfall, except Waterfall made you think "there was something there, long ago, now there are only the remnants of it". Hotland, on the other hand, felt like there never was anything here. It reflected the monsters' struggle to fill up the void in their lives. The same way they tried to fill up Hotland with technology, but it still was empty, they filled up the void in their hearts with puzzles, jokes and MTT's shows, but the void was merely covered up by them. Core, on the other hand, was energetic. It seemed that the electricity in the air is the same thing as the DETERMINATION in your soul. Your journey was nearly over. You almost danced through the halls. This place wasn't like anything that you ever witnessed, and the music only made you more curious, more hyped, more DETERMINED. You ran through lasers, you fled, spared, refused to fight. All the weird monsters here and all the weird ways to spare them. And, through it all, the music cheered you on. Don't give up. Go on. With every step, you're closer to the end. Core fled far too quickly, I was almost disappointed. I ran through it almost like something chased me, and it turned out that it was only the clock's hands. I couldn't be late! It was almost the time for the show. Whoa. It's catchy because that's where mettaton does most of his shows i imagine, so it has that kind of cinema scenery and ambience, kinda like some of new pork city's buildings in Mother 3. It's intense because CORE is the final area before getting to New Home, the Final Corridor and Asgore. It's your last big trial before Asgore/Omega Flowey/Asriel/Sans and it's also where monsters get more serious to stop you.

I've seen a fair bunch of games take the whole internet by storm and rolled my eyes, but Undertale really is something special, I'm quite certain of it now. I still remember the days when it was one of the most obnoxious memes of 2016, when it seemed every trivial object was suddenly an Undertale reference according to comment sections... yet five years later, I can still look back at this and say "wow, this was a truly powerful experience rivaled by few". It's that kind of game that makes you chuckle, but also emotionally grapples you in more than one way. I've tended to avoid RPGs completely save for a few like Chrono Trigger and the Mother trilogy, but when a game like Undertale really channels its energy towards unleashing an uncontrollable gush of creativity to make itself its own thing, it can have that power to stick with _anyone_ no matter what genre it technically is. I'm just dropping by here to relay my congratulations to this game for attaining a solidified level of popularity I'm not sure anyone could have foreseen, as a number of other gems I know of have not ever been able to attain that fortune. It sure earned it!

My head canon is that the monsters here have adapted their new forms as a result of multiple factors. The core powers the entire underground converting geothermal energy to power or magic, possibly even as a giant alchemical engine. And the Ruins monsters here are battle hardened as well, as they’ve seemingly been on their own adventure throughout the underground. It is plausible to assume they have adapted these new combat oriented forms as a result of both of these factors. Both from the surplus of vigor from the CORE, and from their own journeys of enlightenment.

IMO, the Core should've been a maze of sorts. I know it might sound weird, but I just think Undertale suffers from a profound lack of labyrinthian areas, and for some reason, I feel like the Core would've been the perfect place to stop that. I don't know, maybe it's the music, maybe it's the design, maybe it's how the creator of the Core is one big mystery himself, but something just makes it seem to me that the Core would've made a great maze. Oh, and I personally think it would've gone great with the whole "Mettaton-rebelling-against-Alphys'-show" kind of arc. I mean, think about it: there'd be all kinds of these puzzles and hazards that Alphys was planning to 'help' you overcome, only for Mettaton to rearrange them all, in a way that they're too different, too difficult, or just plain unsolvable. And then, the maze itself would be where the arc stands out the most. As Alphys herself said, "this doesn't look like my map at all." This would've been even more effective if the Core had a maze-like design, since it would've allowed the opportunity to have Alphys preparing to help you through the whole labyrinth, only for Mettaton to rearrange the whole thing (he himself said "I was the one who rearranged the Core."), to show Alphys that he's sick of the charade, and as such, is rebelling against it. I don't know, it's not just the whole maze idea, so much as it's how I think the Core should've been longer, perhaps even extended into a whole different area, because of it's interesting concept. Maybe it could've even had a gimmick where you pretend to be a worker, in order to sneak in and around the Core. Maybe it could've had minigames where you actually _do_ do the work that's expected of a worker. It could've been an opportunity to show how everything works there, and show how Mettaton bosses his employees around, if only because of how he's enlisting them to go against Alphys' plan. That's the thing, really: What if Mettaton is the boss of the Core, both figuratively _and_ literally? I think it would've been cool. All in all, I just think the Core was something of a missed opportunity for an area, and could've been expanded upon more, but that's just me.

+Expansion Pak yea the core was way too short. through most of hotlands you see this huge structure in the distance but it ends up only being a couple of rooms.
