LYRICS:
HE AIN’T GOT MY SMILE THAT DON’T BOTHER ME A BIT
HE’S GOT SOMEBODY ELSE’S EYES I’M SEEING MYSELF IN
I’M HOLDING ON TO EVERY MOMENT GOD KNOWS I’VE MISSED A FEW
THE DAY WE MET I KNEW I HAD SOME CATCHING UP TO DO
HE AIN’T MY BLOOD AIN’T GOT MY NAME
BUT IF HE DID, I’D FEEL THE SAME
I WASN’T THERE FOR HIS FIRST STEPS
BUT I AIN’T MISSED A BALL GAME YET
AND THAT AIN’T EVER GONNA CHANGE
I COULD NEVER WALK AWAY
YEAH, HE’S MY SON AND THAT’S MY CHOICE
HE AIN’T MY BLOOD BUT HE’S MY, HE’S MY BOY
IT HIT ME LIKE A TRAIN, THE FIRST TIME HE CALLED ME DAD
IN A THREE STICK FIGURE CRAYON PICTURE WITH ALL OF US HOLDING HANDS
HIS MAMA SAID I UNDERSTAND IF IT’S TOO SOON FOR THIS
I DIDN’T LET HER FINISH I TOOK IT TO THE KITCHEN AND I STUCK IT ON THE FRIDGE
HE AIN’T MY BLOOD AIN’T GOT MY NAME
BUT IF HE DID, I’D FEEL THE SAME
I WASN’T THERE FOR HIS FIRST STEPS
BUT I AIN’T MISSED A BALL GAME YET
AND THAT AIN’T EVER GONNA CHANGE
I COULD NEVER WALK AWAY
YEAH, HE’S MY SON AND THAT’S MY CHOICE
HE AIN’T MY BLOOD BUT HE’S MY, HE’S MY BOY
HE’S SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS
HE’S HEY CAN I SLEEP IN YOUR ROOM
HE’S BIGGER THAN THE PLANS I HAD
HE’S MAKING ME A BETTER MAN
HE AIN’T MY BLOOD AIN’T GOT MY NAME
BUT IF HE DID, I’D FEEL THE SAME
I WASN’T THERE FOR HIS FIRST STEPS
BUT I AIN’T MISSED A BALL GAME YET
AND THAT AIN’T EVER GONNA CHANGE
I COULD NEVER WALK AWAY
YEAH, HE’S MY SON AND THAT’S MY CHOICE
HE AIN’T MY BLOOD BUT HE’S MY, HE’S MY BOY
YEAH HE’S MY, HE’S MY BOY

I turned 27 in june and my father died a year ago in May. We weren't very close and didn't have the relationship I would of liked to of had. It hurts me a lot knowing amends can never be made but I know that when I become a father I'll be extremely loving and supportive and not repeat the same mistakes he did. Regardless of if the child is biologically mine or not. Which is a big change because in the past I was against raising someone else's kid because I want my own. But now i realize that's selfish and there's lots of fatherless kids that need love and guidance.

It’s so hard to balance being a stepdad when the real dad is “kinda” around. I met my boy when he was 12, and I knew he’d never call me Dad. I always introduce him as “my son” and I’ve always felt the best I can do is be a good role model, teach him how to treat his mom, treat other women, treat other people the right way. He’s on his way to being his own kind of man, not exactly like me, but a solid person who is equipped to make his way in the world. I’m not sure if the song or the other comments made me cry more.

Thank you for For that As a stepparent for two boys I can tell you it gets difficult sometimes a little hard but you have to keep pushing through because the kids that you are raising love you And they know no blood or last name they just know the person that’s there raising them. My stepson landed in my world at 4 years old. He is 21 now. He’s as much a part of me as my own 14 yr old. He has my birthday flower tattooed on his arm right beside his moms. My mom knew from the first time she met him that he would be in our lives from then on. Everyone’s hearts grew around my stepson.

Well I still haven’t met and don’t even really care to meet that guy, 36 years later now! But the man I call dad has done everything and more than I could have ever asked for! Never mattered what it was, when it was, he has always been there when I needed anything, and taught me everything I know! I might add that we lost my mom in 93, when I was 9 and had two younger brothers, 8 and 6 at the time. And this guys raised all 3 of us himself, and even adopted me when mom died so that the other guy couldn’t take me away from him! I’m glad I have his last name! I just told him to look this song up, so hope you see this in the comments dad! Love ya

I relate to this in two ways. One from the perspective of the child, as my nephew didn’t have his dad in his life, but his mom married a stand up guy that has raised him as his own. A true Dad. The second from the perspective of the Dad, as I raised one of my daughters for 11 years before finding out I wasn’t the parental parent. I will never not see her as my daughter. The role of a parent isn’t just blood, it’s a role of choice, responsibility and sacrifice.

@googleisorwellian no one is more pro family than me, but I strongly disagree. No child should be brought into this world outside the confines of marriage, but if a woman changes her lifestyle and repents of her sins, then she will know that her child needs a father, and if the real father isn’t willing to step up, someone else should. This is equally if not more true for mothers who make the right decision and choose life in situations of rape and incest.

I heard this song today on my way to work and I instantly started crying! I can relate to this song with my daughter! I found out at age 25 I couldn't have children and I was completely crushed. Then about a year later I started dating a man now my husband and he has a beautiful daughter named Nevaeh. Unfortunately her biologic mom was not in the picture (long story). A year into dating he introduced us to eachother and I instantly fell in love. God gave me this beautiful blonde haired brown eyed little girl and he gave her me! This was almost 14 yrs ago and I am truly blessed to be able to say I am a very proud mama and hearing this song today just brought back that first day of meeting my daughter!❤

Robert absolutely agree. I’m stepping up because my women’s baby dad is pretty much showing his stepping down…. There are now 3 men(my dad to my sister, my brother in law to my nieces, and now me to my women’s boy) in my family who’s stepped up to be fathers to children that’s not biologically ours. Any guy that would talk bad about another man doing that definitely ain’t a man that in fact is a little boy who don’t know true love.

The bible compares our life to a vapor that quickly disappears, or a plant that is here today and gone tomorrow. Do you think about what happens after you are gone? Where is your soul going? Have you heard of a place called heaven and a place called hell? Today I want to urge you to surrender your life to God. Salvation is gifted to us from God out of pure love. All we need to do is believe and follow Jesus Christ. This scripture sums it up. For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whoever believes on Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 Turn your life over to Christ today, tomorrow may be too late. If you have any comments of questions feel free to ask me.

Evan Anthony, I came into your life when your were 5yrs old, you're 17 now. I've never considered you my stepson, you've always been my son and it's been a pleasure teaching you all the things my pops taught me. I don't say this much but I Love You son and I'm proud of the young man you have become so far. Thank you for making me a good father 💙

This is the song that I plan to do for my “father & Bride” dance at my wedding. My biological dad is a huge part of my life, but my step dad is also a huge part of my life. I’m so grateful for the things my step dad has done for me, cause he didn’t have to do any of it. I’ve experienced the type of step dad that doesn’t do anything for his step kids, and I’ve had the blessing of experiencing this kind of step dad. Didn’t have to do anything, but choose to step up and do everything he could for his step kids. I’m so grateful

I just heard this song for the first time today and I can't stop hitting the repeat button. I don't even have any connection to it, since I have no kids and I was fortunate enough to be raised by both biological parents. Still I'm just blown away by how impactful this song is. It's kind of crazy to think of how virtually no song has ever covered this subject even though it's a thing that literally affects the lives of millions.
