Incredibly beautiful movie. The ending is a shock, but an appropriate ending for star-crossed lovers. It was a matter of choices made. The Elvira Madigan theme music has great significance to me and is relevant to my life in certain aspects.

The film was released in the year that the real Elvira would've turned 100 years... Incredibly romanticised, the actual story is quite sordid.
