Elvis Costello & The Attractions perform 'Kid About It' and 'Man Out Of Time' on Late Night with David Letterman. Dave interviews Elvis between songs. (23/08/1982)
Taken from a longer compilation video on KZbin which was badly out of sync. Syncing has been fixed.

Imperial Bedroom is a superb album. In fact all of his '77 - '86 output was great.

This was actually the first I ever saw of Elvis; this tune blew me away!!!!! I went back catalogue shopping the very next day, and got "Get Happy!" The rest, as they say, is history.

First time seeing this delightful video in many, many years, and I've now added it to my collection. EC just last week made his 27th and final appearance on Letterman's show, and here's his very first back in 1982.

True genius also this is my favourite of his albums with the attractions , ‘pigeon English’ , ‘town Cryer’ and ‘A boy with a problem’ are phenomenal tunes to name but a few on this LP , in fact in my opinion every track is a gem ! Long live Elvis Costello !

Beautiful harmonic choice on the line "There's" at 16:46. He's singing a D# (Eb) - the major-seventh of the E chord. Great sound, and different from the vocal on the album version.

Tommy Haynes No - on the sustained line "Theeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrre's" in "There's a reputation to be made", which begins precisely at 16:46 and sustains until 16:48 at which point he says "a reputation to be made." That "theeeeerrrrrre's" turns the band's harmony into an exaggerated major-seventh chord.

I remember watching this episode when it first aired.. I was such a HUUUUUUGE EC fan and loved the Imperial Bedroom album. LOVED it. Knew it was a masterpiece in 1982 as a high school junior. But I was slightly disappointed that these two songs were selected. I LOVED Shabby Doll and Beyond Belief and had hoped he would play at least one of these. Seeing EC on the TV (he had been banned on SNL for playing Radio Radio) was RARE and hearing EC on the radio was almost unheard of... (little has changed)...
