Nice Mark, collecting the FTD vinyl has cost us some to complete , but I would love to see them re-released from the start for everyone to own and love them! I was there from the very beginning with the 1999 first release from the UK fan club onwards. Without Ernst working for BMG and then Sony and then creating FTD we would seriously be without so much…

Not only do I agree, but I think it will inevitably happen. Vinyl has grown in popularity a great deal since 2009. I think the 50th anniversary of his passing will be the latest you see this start happening. I predict that it will depress the prices on the originals to a degree and that they will do something to differentiate them from the originals like pressing them on colored vinyl, perhaps multiple colors to drive sales to the completists. Personally I have all but 11 of them but I did buy a few as open copies which caused them to sell at reasonable prices. I actually prefer the open ones for that reason…I want to listen to them so they’ll end up opened anyway. This is a moneymaking opportunity for the record label that I don’t think they’ll pass up.

Hi Mark: the possible reason for the marked-up price of the FTD CD's could relate to the fire the manufactures had a few years back. The CD's themselves as you know are getting pretty pricey now on the second-hand market. I do like your idea on reissuing the FTD vinyl and your right there is and would be a market for them and Sony/RCA would not lose any money on them being remade. I can’t agree more, Mark… a group of sellers won’t be happy because they invested in several copies of the original pressings, with the intent for selling for big money … and this will make 1st pressing prices drop (right…?) … but that shouldn’t be a reason for FTD not to do it !

Hey Mark with the well reportedly running dry and the previous few releases FTD have had multiple bites of the cherry releasing different versions of the same sets different vinyl variations etc books and sessions releases etc there’s absolutely no reason they shouldn’t do it.If they wanted to make subtle differences to distinguish first pressings etc they could make different colour vinyls or different colour hypes which would still make them desirable to the old collectors and make the titles available to the newer generation? Thanks Daren! I appreciate that! 👍🏻 One big difference, would be for the original releases that had the beautiful inner sleeves, the new pressings I’m sure, would only have the white paper sleeves. That would be the biggest difference. Thus, the originals would still be more sought after.

Hi Mark, Thanks for another interesting video. For anyone who has not had the opportunity to purchase these FTDs, this would of course be a perfect opportunity to still own them. I would also like to have the entire collection, but of course I am not going to pay 500 plus dollars for a copy. On the other hand, the copies that I do own are very valuable to me as an Elvis Fan and collector because you have the feeling that you have something special in your collection. I think the whole idea behind FTD philosophy would be lost if these "limited editions" were repressed because FTD started as a collectors label for die hard Elvis Fans. What is a Limited Edition collector's item in general if it is re-released after a certain period of time? And again...I would love to own the first editions but unfortunately I missed them. I recently picked up an insane amount of FTD CD’s in the last year or so. I would get some FTD vinyl if they were released. I spent $100 or so on the FTD Standing Room Only CD and something like $200 for the FTD This Is Elvis soundtrack. On average I spent $80 for most of the FTD’s. I good amount still in shrink wrap and the others in very good condition. Minus soundtracks after G.I. Blues, I have all the Classic Album FTD on CD. I have most of the FTD sessions sets.

When you meet with Ed touch on the recent FTD box set release that is crazy expensive For a lot of collectors and I would love to see a scaled down version so it is affordable for everyone. FTD if they re-release the series will want a pretty penny for them. If they do as you suggest and limit them to 10,000 then we could be back to a inflated market over time as you mentioned series one is crazy expensive.

There is no doubt in my mind that most if not all will eventually be re-issued and I think it's great. From the company's perspective there is no reason not to, especially with 2027 right around the corner. I only need a handful of the first press albums at this point and I'll get them eventually. I've found by watching discogs very closely they pop up hoping to sell quickly now and then and I jump on them. Late one night on ebay I was just looking at new listings in general and came across one priced at $100...looked at the sellers other items and there were 2 others, same price, but it now. "FTD" was not in the product description. I bought them immediately and had them 3 days later. They were open (I don't care) but in perfect condition! That being said there are a couple I really overpaid for. Tom M

@paulgwyn7836 Same here. I was completely selective about which ones I would pick up. The first, “Blue Hawaii” just didn’t appeal to me, so I skipped it. Then the next one, “Standing Room Only” came and I’m like, “Hell Yea”. Same with “Jungle Room Sessions”, but as time went on, I just wanted to get the CD’s and skip a lot of what came out in vinyl versions. I don’t think anyone knew really, that they would command the bread that they do now, but oh well I guess. 🥲

I like the idea but I’m not sure there would be the massive demand you talked about. What would you considered see a massive demand? The recent main stream vinyl releases of From Nashville and Back in Nashville have great material but I think they have sold in the thousands. I not sure if they have sold in the tens of thousands yet. Same goes for the American Sound release. They’re all still available for less than half the price of a FTD release. The recent blue vinyl release of the Boulevard album sold out quickly but that’s only 3500 copies worldwide. The black vinyl version has been available for a couple months now and that may have been pressed in lower numbers than the blue vinyl. How many copies would need to be sold for it to make economic sense to reprint and rerelease FTD vinyl? 1000?, 2000? 3500?. I think the recent Boulevard release may have been a test by FTD to gage demand. Do a special release that is a “limited edition”. Then release the exact same material but in more of a normal release. Im sure they’re looking at how many people will buy both copies and how much of a demand is there for the actual material that people want to listen to and not simply collect and leave sealed? If they do rereleases how many people outside of the more hardcore collectors will buy it? Will 3000 people pay 50 or 60 dollars for a Blue Hawaii album when for a few dollars more they can buy the complete sessions on CD? I like the FTD vinyl. I have a number of them including some of the perceived rare ones. I think right now is when they are probably at their peak in value. The rereleases would dry up the market for reselling to people that want the vinyl to listen to. There would still be a demand for the originals by collectors that missed out when they were originally released but is that number of collectors growing? There may still be millions of Elvis fans worldwide but I think the numbers of fans who are like us and take the deep dive into listening to and collecting the more rare Elvis material is fairly small. Hopefully there are some rereleases but for fans that want to listen to the music a rerelease of some of the classic albums on CD would be a better value. More material on the CDs with the sound being the same. I believe all the vinyl release are taken from a digital source so they would have the same sound as a CD. I know what sounds best is a whole other topic.

All good points. My theory on all this is based on the huge amount of comments I see from fans that are pining for this. I belong to probably about a half dozen Facebook Elvis fan pages, one being an FTD page. So many folks have been saying how they were late to the game, and missed out. What’s also evident are the insane money some are paying. Imagine these being repressed with a $45.99 price tag compared to over a thousand dollars tat people are paying. It’d be interesting if it happens. I seriously have doubts it will ever happen, honestly. We’ll see. 😄👍🏻

@@markselvisforeveryonechann1153 I probably belong to some of those same groups so I know what you’re saying about all the comments. unfortunately I think the number of people that are really hard core into this is smaller than we think. We can be very vocal about what we would like but I’m afraid that doesn’t necessarily translate into huge numbers. Does a few hundred comments mean that 5,000 copies will be sold? And at $50-$60 each how many fans will actually buy them? I’m sure many fans have to pick and choose because of their budget. If they shell out $60 for a reissue vinyl album does that mean they won’t be buying the latest 3 cd FTD soundboard release? I can afford to buy it all but I have become very choosy in what I buy now. We see what seems to be a large number of fans for years now wanting an official release of unseen material from TTWII and On Tour but until recently there had not much talk of that actually happening. If the companies that controlled this material thought there was a profit to be made there’s no way they wouldn’t have already made that happen. I think the redone TTWII from 30 years ago sold in underwhelming numbers and that probably put the brakes on other projects. Now with Baz involved we may finally get to see some of this material but I’m not holding my breath. I kinda hope I’m wrong on some of my assessments and we see the FTD rereleases. I enjoy your videos and this one is a very thought provoking one for sure.

I agree that some fans could care less. I’ve chatted with several who are just fine with the Sony/BMG and Legacy releases, but there is a huge desire and demand for these- folks that I see several times a week that are trying hard and searching for the vinyl at a decent price. We can agree to disagree- that’s what makes the world go around! 😄👍🏻
