I remember buying this the week it came out, but for some reason when I was cycling home with it, I didn’t have it in a bag and one of the records came out of the sleeves and dropped into the road! I retrieved it and got it home. It wasn’t damaged at all, not even a scratch, amazing. I still have it and it still plays just fine. Great album. I like the fan comments from a historical context, but find them very annoying when I actually play the album.

Another Great Video and Another Great Album Ed!!! I remember this when I was about 9 years old and my Mom and Dad were putting up Christmas 🎄 decorations and I came across this in the record collection and I wanted to listen to it and my Mom asked me “It’s Christmas Time, why do you want to listen to an Elvis Album during Christmas” My Dad said well.. Elvis is Christmas because he sang Christmas songs as well. Anyway long story short I was able to listen to this record and I enjoyed it. Made me become closer to being the ELVIS FAN I Am TODAY!!!! Thanks for posting and sharing this I enjoyed very much!!! ELVIS IS THE BEST!!!! TCB⚡️⚡️⚡️

Thanks for the great video Ed and couldn't agree more. This album brings back great memories as it was given to me as a gift when I was in hospital having my left eye removed and I played Elvis day and night in the hospital. I just loved his voice and as I was only 6 at the time I had no idea these were from some of his final shows. The cassette version had a slightly different playing order as Hurt started Side 2 and I just kept rewinding and rewinding to the hear it all over again. I do watch the TV special from time to time and yes its sad but its still my hero Elvis and I love him even more if that is possible.

@@elvicare35 It amazes me that people are so critical of the 77 CBS Special. The man was 42 yrs old. With everything he contributed to the world, 44 yrs after his death, they still criticize him for his appearance! Not the show he put on, but his looks. If you can find it, I highly recommend the book written recently, titled Destined to Die Young by MS Sally Hoedel. It goes a long way to try and explain what was ailing Elvis! I can’t say it will change minds, but it does do a great job In helping explain his health issues.

A very nostalgic album for me. Probably one of the first Elvis albums I bought on my own with money I earned at Burger King! I always loved the cover and did not know it was from Pittsburgh, New Years 1976 until years later. I never had a problem with this album and in fact, enjoyed it very much. Years later I learned what Elvis was going through at the time. But back then, I just thought it was a fitting tribute after his passing. Thanks for highlighting it Ed. Like you I watched on TV in October. In the 1980's I bought a terrible VHS copy of the TV special. I didn't have a VCR in 1977. If I did maybe my rabbit ear antenna TV would have produced a similar product like I bought in ,early 1980's. Even offer was the Frankie & Johnny 1976 release which had no 1965 photos. Had no idea what Elvis would sound like in '77 and the adrenaline was just boiling over to hear first notes of his voice. Sadness immediately replaced my euphoria as realisation of this being the final live recording took over. Elvis sounded down but superb at the same time, and sides 3 and 4 were my favourites. Still have this precious vinyl but occasionally play the cd instead. An album that still brings mixed emotions.

Had a childhood friend who had an already "well worn" version of the record in the early 1980's, but when I heard it, it was at the friends house on a cheap, budget record player with a built-in speaker. Later in 1992, I bought the CD reissue for myself, which sounded MUCH better. Elvis was a bit more "bloated" in the CBS special (which I saw when aired) than the photos in the set. Unlike the '68 special and Aloha From Hawaii, we'll probably never get a home video release of that CBS special.

I remembered that you made a video about this 2LP... I received my first copy this week (nice scandinavian copy "MINT" copy for 4€ 🙃). I'm glad to finally hear these final recordings but the first LP is almost painful to hear. Elvis sounds frazzled and his articulation is unsettling. You can't tell if he's exhausted or bored. The selection on the second LP is clearly more upbeat. If you compare the joy and passion of the 1970 concerts... the perfection of 1974 (almost too much actually) to this double live from 1977... the difference is sadly obvious.

Elvis personal photographer has said no professional photos of Elvis later than 1975 were taken for any promos or album art. Of course the much latter FTD albums broke those rules. So all these photos were 1975 and prior probably an effort by RCA to protect his image and avoid the obvious decline in his appearance in 76-77. As far as the album it was really sad the obvious decline he often was out of breath and forgetting lyrics. The voice itself was excellent when he was focused as in Hurt and in How Great Thou Art. Great powerful renditions the songs he did to death he sounded disinterested and there is lack of focus was apparent. Probably my least favorite that was not a soundtrack which were even worse than this sometimes. I would like to remember Elvis in better times unfortunately this album reminds me of his decline more than anything else it is of historical and fan significance but not something you would recommend to the casual Elvis fan or those new to his music this is for die hards and loyal enthusiast only of which I am one and I still don't listen to this album in its entirety its too sad to do.

Elvis even in 77 had more talent in his little finger than what the artists of today have.

You know the thing is they like "upgrade" and "remaster" sound over and over with varying degrees of sucess but never this one. This being his final live album, and the worst sounding. It seems that starting in 1969-70 the sound mix was great, but as years went by, his live albums got worse and worse. This double album, is one that begs to be completely remixed and mastered. It would help some of the weaker performances at least.

Ed I believe it's 1976, 1974 and 1972 for the photos. I love this album and genuinely believe Elvis here as a singer and not a performer is better than him any other time. His voice was so powerful here but it was so sad to watch unfortunately. My way, How great thou art, hurt, if you love me let me know and I really don't wanna know among many others are great from this in my opinion. TCB ⚡

Sadly, Elvis was drugged out of his mind in Omaha.. I don`t like that concert. He was only two months away from dying, and he was in a terrible shape. My favorite track from this is "Hurt"
