Just before Elvis was supposed to go out and start the live show, he called Steve Binder, the producer into the makeup room and sent everyone else out, and told Steve he couldn’t do it. He just couldn’t go out there. He didn’t remember any of the things they had talked about, just couldn’t do it, “Sorry.” The audience is waiting for him, everything is set. Steve did a major pep talk. He wrote the list of talking points Elvis would bring out. Steve told Elvis to go out, say hi and if he just couldn’t do it, say goodnight. The rest is history. Lisa, you owe it to yourself to get Steve Binder’s book on the ‘68 special, also the latest 3 cd version which has all the outtakes. It has all the jam sessions with the guys. Steve’s book details the evolution of the show from Elvis singing all Christmas songs, which was the colonel’s plan, to what it became and what he, with Elvis’ backing, had to go through with the colonel to get what we’re all enjoying 50+ years later.

elvis liked steve idea . and didn't like parker idea . did you know elvis had a big bust up with parker over that. about he didnt want to do christmas songs and went right up to steve and said ok lets do it . i wish elvis had stuck up for himself more often with parker

There are two sit down shows, and in the other show he changed the lyrics, he did that now and then, as you may know. He didn't sing : would make my dreams come true! He sings: would make your earth stand still! Well, my earth stood still from that moment on when i saw him in the black leather outfit!🤩 He didn't have to sing, just watching, with eyes and mouth wide open 😮 Thank God, i'm a women 😂

When he sang the line "It's been too lonely too long" each time it had some significance. He was contractually obligated to do those mostly poor quality films in the 60s for so long. But he was feeling liberated being in front of a live audience once again. He was like a panther who was caged for a long time. But being released at long last he was ready to pounce and run around.

That was my prime time and i grew up with him.once he knew he would be accepted and his fans were solid behind him , did he ever let go. The 68 special was his turning point....the bad boy if you will. I am fortunate to have seen the greatest performer that changed the music industry to what it is today....he gave you his all and loved every bit.too bad the blood suckers like the many he had doctors , AND THE MANY SO CALLED MAFIA ONES THAT HE TRUSTED WERE NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF VAMPIRE BLOOD SUCKERS....i have to leave that one alone. If they were truly his friends , he'd lived a few more years....r.i.p.....

@@louiscoy7923 A number of the Memphis Mafia were genuine friends. Joe, Charlie, Billy, red, Sonny, Jerry were among the best friends he could have had. Elvis depended on them for support and friendship. Elvis needed to take responsibility for his lifestyle and habits. You can't legitimately blame others for his own actions. Elvis was a very stubborn man. He hardly listened to Parker or even his own father. I'm very much a fan of his music, but not the way he lived his life. I am very much aware of his incredible generosity. However, that doesn't excuse his wastefulness. Don't try and make the man perfect. He had some excellencies and some hurtful faults.

Bit of trivia. The song was originally written “....is what I’m now paying for...”. They had Elvis sing it “.....is what I’m now praying for...” when he first recorded it in the 50’s. Because the “paying for” was an unwanted pregnancy and deemed too risqué for him to sing with all those teenagers.
@MarkRogersVOCFB4 жыл бұрын
It was also called "One Night of Sin" and not "One Night with You." Notice the second line when he sings "the things I did and I saw would make the earth stand still." He sometimes would sing those lines.

When do JAILHOUSE ROCK, I hope you do the 1957 original version, when he turned the world upside down, because they weren't ready for that then. He was adorned at that time and hated by many, thinking he was a demon. He converted most of them by the time of this special for sure. I think he earned the older people's respect when he faithfully did his time in the Army and refused special privileges. :)

Lisa you need to hear the original One Night . Elvis was dead serious less playful Elvis recorded . One night of Sin also goes with this song, It's hard to explain. They wouldn't let Elvis release the Old blues tune until later, So they cleaned up the lines with the words we hear on One night One night of sin Isn't suggestive by today's standards but life was White bread back then I love both versions and wouldn't want to be deprived of either so take a listen. Any era Elvis sang it he owns it and he's so great at it I don't know of other singers jumping up to give us their rendition.
