Elvis Presley - Early Morning Rain - From First Take to the Master

Elvis' studio rendition of Gordon Lightfoot's "In The Early Morning Rain" contains one of his best vocal performances on record and as such would be a must for the "First Take to the Master" series on my KZbin channel. Unfortunately however, of the twelve takes that Elvis worked through, five takes are missing, presumed lost, and of those remaining only one complete take exists, this take eleven.
The master itself was constructed from a splice of takes three, ten and twelve, all of which are missing from the tape although the count ins or announcements of takes three and ten still remain. This is all a pity as it really would be a treat to hear this song constructed especially considering that there is still such a contrast between this take and the final RCA master.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!

​@@TCBees73Hello Ant, that's funny. Yeah, 1st Sept. was suppose to be Spring, but truly Summer has arrived in SA... I'm missing Winter already... 🤗😊 This is a very nice channel. Leon takes great care of presenting the Elvis songs from start to finish.. good listening indeed. I enjoy this channel. I'm on a timeshare holiday with family and friends. Very relaxed. The troop of monkeys kept us entertained for hours in the front garden of our bungalow as we watched their escapes from indoors.. 🐵🐒 saw lots of different buck too. Very relaxing. Trust you'll get a bout of rain soon. We also need rain, it's hot! And we always keep the Elvis legacy alive! I watched the dvd Elvis on Tour, complete Outtakes the other evening. So enjoyable to watch this man perform and sing. He was a winner from start to finish and a true professional artist. I just love his voice and him as a person. Kind and wonderful... Yes it's a great channel, really informative descriptions and I love these song takes to the master versions really love this stuff! Indeed we will inevitably get rain normally thunderstorms after heatwave, it chucks it down 😄. That Elvis on Tour outtakes sounds good, Elvis looked so cool in that red jumpsuit he wore at the beginning of the movie. I recently got 'It Happened at the Worlds Fair' double feature cd so will have a listen to that today. What a gem, what a melody, so soft and delicate and clever. I've been listening to this song on a loop since I discovered it on the Elvis Back in Nashville box set, so much that by now the "why do I hear an echo on myself" and Time Out - Kleenex things are integral part of the song 😅 as is "the difference between a jet and a fret train". Never getting tired of this. Thank you Leon, and for the 1st live rendition too. So great that these recordings exist.

'Gordon Lightfoot admitted that, in the 1970s, he hadn't paid much attention to (Elvis's) cover of his classic song Early Morning Rain. “It didn't really register until after he was gone,” said the Canadian singer/songwriter. “But I loved the job he did on it. "I have a personal connection to all of my songs but I really like what Elvis did with "Early Morning Rain". It has such a smooth feel to it. Obviously he was meant to record it."
