He wrote the melody, the chord structure and the one line. He was humming the melody but he wasn't getting the lyrics on the spot. Most writers do exactly the same thing. Yesterday was "Scrambled Eggs." But Paul kept at it until it was a song. All Elvis had to do was work on it the next day in the hotel room before going back to the studio. But instead he just left it. The one line is interesting if it weren't so ironic (he is playing the guitar LOL). Very few stars make it that way. They have sizzle before the steak. You do have to put your mind to it and not give up.

Robin Markowitz Did Elvis Presley write the melody?
@RobinMarkowitzcoolmedia6 жыл бұрын
Monika Cabadajová Yes he did. Right there at the microphone. It's fine like it is: just needs some lyrics. Which generally means "homework." You have to take the tape and then start throwing rhymes at the music. Most "overwrite" and throw away stuff that doesn't work. But once Elvis left the studio, he was done with it. There are sessions for which no outtakes exist, so there's no telling how many times this happened, especially in the early days when they reused rejected tape. And other reasons for missing session tape. He did do the lyrics once. The time pressure was intense to release "One Night (Of Sin)." RCA insisted that he "clean it up." "Paying" became ""praying." Cleverly, though, he sang about praying for that one night that would "make the earth stand still." The original record by Smiley Lewis has a different arrangement of verses that made it sound like a confession. Not so with Elvis' versions.

Robin Markowitz Thank you for your reply. I've listened to Elvis since september last year and became his huge fan. When I watched live concert's I became convinced, that Elvis had to be able to compose great music and I just did not understand why he did not. I was amazed to watch him on stage and see how this man reacted to every sound, from musician on stage, audience or backstage and to his ability conduct all musician on stage, improvise and jam. Every sound and every emotion written on his face. This fascinates me most. It is shame for his fans that Elvis was not selfconscious enough to go out with his own music and people around him did not encouraged him. He told in some interviews about himself that he cannot sing, he cannot play guitar and he did not write songs. He was wrong in all of his statment. Amazing singer, Johny Cash told about him that he was best rhythmic guitar player, who he ever had seen on stage and this video just prove that he created own music for his joy,.He was complex, talented musician and amazing awesome singer. Don't you know if there is some other musice created by EP. Thank you. Have a nice day. Elvis Presley 4ever!

Other music. He probably did a good portion of a song called "You'll Be Gone." It's a long story involving a fight over an old melody. Charlie wrote a simple two-chord melody after being turned down by other publishers regarding the old melody. Elvis already had the title, chorus, and some very confusing lyrics. I expect they meant something specific to him. Red West added missing elements and polished it up. Unfortunately, he went around asking people around him if they liked it. They were not supportive, mostly because it had a European sound, rather than American rock or pop. Elvis took it to heart. This was in the early 1960s. Another one was about losing someone you love, someone who died. "That's Someone You Never Forget." He had the title, the story, the chorus, and the ghostly arrangement. Red gave him a simple melody and the verses. In 1954 at age 19, he rewrote "I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone" into a blues with different words and a blues melody. It was sent to radio, but was rejected. It was finally bootlegged in 1970! In Scandanavia! The title on the radio demo is "My Baby's Gone." The video link below is the 1970 bootleg 45. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYLHZnyKnM2sbqM

Guðlaugur Ómar I see it as a potential novelty song, very popular in the early 70s.

EVERYTHING rhymes with guitar!!! Frustrating. But Elvis was very ADHD; if nothing came to him at the mic stand, he moved on to the next thing and forgot all about it. I like the chord progressions he's doing on the guitar: this WAS the beginning of a real song. (Most bands collaborate. Why didn't anyone else throw lines at it?)
