I was born in 1959 and so Elvis was just before my time as I grew up loving The Beatles, et al. I remember my mother taking me to see one of his movies as a young lad but I can't remember which one that it was, but in my childhood innocence I mispronounced Elvis' name as "Elvis Pretzel" the way that young children learn to speak words. Ironically I was led to discover Elvis' music through Led Zeppelin who performed many of his songs as part of their concert encores when they'd run out of songs to perform so they performed old-time rock songs and particularly Elvis songs as he was their idol when they were young and aspiring musicians as they were introduced to American rock music at a young age in England. Footnote: Famous people who died on August 16 include Elvis, Babe Ruth, Aretha Franklin and Robert Johnson, and I remember hearing the news of Elvis' death over the radio in my bedroom listening to NYC station WPLJ-FM when it breaking news announced in the afternoon that Elvis had taken ill and was hospitalized, so the station honored him by playing an Elvis song or two. Then just moments later the radio DJ announced with a sense of shock in his voice the updated news that Elvis had died. What a tragic moment. I'll remain sad over it until the day of my own death.

I know what you mean, I feel the same way. Men of Elvis’s generation (or mine, I’m 62) ordinarily don’t really talk about another guy being good looking. Women will say another women is pretty, cute, etc. but straight men just typically don’t do it when it comes to attractive men. Elvis was the exception.

I never heard it put that way! You are absolutely correct. I always try to figure out how rock, today's rock, manifested from Elvis at Sun. You are exactly right. Like Winger or Guns and Roses. Love hurts or every rose, it's a very classic ballad. This is one of my absolute favorites of his. He doesn't perform it live, it was recorded early & Other then this I have never seen him perform it in person. It's even prettier when he sings it live and is loose with it. So beautiful.
