Kentucky Rain was written by Eddie Rabbit and Dick Heard. Elvis took the song to gold and helped launch Eddie Rabbit's career. Elvis might have never written a song, but he helped many songwriters with their careers. Elvis did give his ideas on some songs however and when he sang them he put his all into every song he sang.

Elvis had the original release of this song in January 1970. Eddie Rabbitt, the songwriter released his version in 1978, most likely as a tribute to Elvis after his death.

Elvis did take some time during his Army service in Germany to hone his voice, with the help of good friend and well regarded gospel tenor, Charlie Hodge. If you listen to songs from his first recording sessions, post Army, in 1960 including It’s Now Or Never and all the tracks from His Hand In Mine album, you can hear that richer tone he crafted during his two year absence.

In the beginning Elvis have that young voice and it wants more rockabilly rock and roll and everything and you're right he did some different when he come back from Germany he had that pure soft by bretto voice on most of his songs unless he wanted to get down one time and then in the 70s his voice was so much deeper that he was considered more like a baritone but Elvis kissing three octaves even on a vacation he could hit a falsetto note they'll always be the king AKA Elvis Junkie

I'm from Kentucky, Elvis' Grandfather, Jesse Presley lived in Louisville, Kentucky. This was who EPs twin brother ( Jesse Garon ) Stillborn at birth, was named after! After EP became famous , he bought Jesse a new Cadillac and, brought it down to Louisville, Ky to him!

Hello from England ELVIS died 2 days before my 12th birthday. I have been a FAN ever since Watching lots of videos about ELVIS and his "backstory" they make me think so much more about the years that have "FLOWN BY" If asked what is my FAVOURITE ELVIS song, and he recorded over 700! i would have to reply: ALL OF THEM. Elvis could have recorded an album of Nursery Rhymes and i would have loved THEM ALL. However i have this song on my Phone playlist so i can say "its up there" What was it about ELVIS. He was DIFFERENT You had the "crooners" like Bing, Dean, Frank and Perry but they were all the "same" but when ELVIS came on the scene HE WAS JUST DIFFERENT. He had CHARISMA like there was no tomorrow, HE HAD that wiggle and the jiggle and HE HAD IT ALL. His LOVE OF GOSPEL MUSIC and Gospel Quartet Groups was his "thing" I purchased a vintage album recently from 1978 and in an interview back in the early days with ELVIS and THE COLONEL Elvis replied: I LOVE THE CHARLESTON AND THE FOXTROT He also loved MARIO LANZA I watch all these reactions FEELING lucky, HAPPY sad and blessed all together. I so love Kentucky Rain too. He’s the first to sing it. It came out the same year as Supecious Minds and The Getto. All three his, as he was first to sing them. Kentucky Rain made in the top 10 on the radio charts, but I always thought it should have been number 1. And never knew why it didn’t get much attention in reviews, I guess because it wasn’t a gold record. Should have been. But by the late 60’s it was “political play for play” on the radio. Elvis would never play the political games. So we all missed out on it in later years. I remember when these 3 were on the radio 68-71. I was a very young teen. My mother had alwYs listened to his music. But these 3 songs were the first I heard on the radio stations that we teens listen to back then. I Always wondered why it didn’t get as much attention because to me it was the best of the three. They’re all awesome, I just loved Kentucky Rain Best of the three. These last few years people are discovering it. Note; he did sing it live in Vegas I believe in 1969. I finally found it on you tube, after looking it up, tells how many times he sang it live in Vegas and how to find them.

What great reaction! But you really should listen to the original recording released in 1969 without the added orchestrations, etc. It's more gritty and raw.
