You made me laugh so much. Thank you. This special was so different. The first session was the jam session so relaxed and spontaneous and the second part was choreographed and was telling a story. You have to watch the gospel song that followed this.

One of my favourite scenes/songs is missing. 😪 I had a VHS cassette. After "Big Boss Man" there was a scene where Elvis tries to convince the lady of the "Big Boss" to leave him. It's also a fantastic fighting scene. The song is called "It hurts me". I think you would be impressed by the choreography.

Totally. The fight with big boss man is completely missing. For some reason, this has cut some of the scenes sort. I still enjoyed totally, but Seph should watch the entire show on his own some time to see what he missed with this version.

Don't worry i will definitely get around to all the stuff i didnt see in the near future!! but to keep things rolling because i still have 300+ songs to listen to i will be mixing in outtakes/bloopers/repeats from the 1968 special. So like maybe every 5 songs or so i'll cycle back and do something from the special. So by the time i get to 1977 i should have watched everything there is to see from it. Then i can start tackling all his concerts "Which is going to take years haha"

As I remember TV specials at the time, you got a mix of songs, dances and skits. This was more dramatic and extensive than the usual skit but the director, Steve Binder, was an innovator and have to love him for nurturing Elvis' creativity after the Colonel seemed to be holding him back. A lot of this didn't make it on the the original TV show. They came out with Special Editions with unused footage years later.

This part of the show was meant to be something like a sort of short summary of his career - although it's not strictly factual as he wasn't just a guitar man and he didn't work in a carwash - but, hey, it goes from him trying to make it, to playing in the clubs and being in the movies. Then when we see him back in the black leather, it's brought us right back up-to-date and that's why there is a final verse with different lyrics. If you listen to it he's saying something like: 'I've come a long way from the carwash up to where I said I'd get. Now that I'm here, I know for sure that I really haven't got there yet. So I think I'll start all over and sling my guitar over my back. I'm gonna get myself back on the track and never, ever look back.' That last line is very appropriate as this was him getting himself back on the track and he didn't look back after this. Onwards and upwards Elvis 😍😊

When they aired it again later, and for Europe, there was more songs from the Sit down show and the road medley had ‘It hurts me’ also. It also had the entire Are You Lonesome Tonight. House of ill repute, they use to say, part of the big city life he ain;t use to, just a plain old country boy. The guitar man goes to the big city. It is a story and similar to his story, Tennessee boy sees the seedy part of life, a long way from the church. How do you like the karate moves. Thanks Seph.

They actually took out the Bordello scene. NBC fell it was too risqué. The production areas didn’t do as well as he just singing with the leather suit etc. Later during an Anniversary series they have outtakes on every scene. So many that on the production scenes it became boring. Although once when the Big Boss man went to break the guitar, it didn’t break and he tried again and it didn’t break. Everyone was laughing. 😂😂❤❤

They cut the fight scene out.😢 Just FYI. Due to tv censorship rules at the time, a women was not allowed to show their bellybutton on tv. Thus, the jewel is glued into her bellybutton. Also, the bordello scene was not in the original showing. Immediately after his death, networks begun showing his movie, special, etc. in memory of him. When this special was pulled from the archive, it was the 90 minute version, not the 60 minute version. Fans got to see footage they had never seen.

This was too sexy for TV in 1968 and was released after his death. Boss man must have been 6' 4" or 6' 5" - Elvis was 6'. Not a fan of the music in the dance number. They're mixing up the scenes from one part to another, whoever put this together.

"Let Yourself Go" and Susan Henning is essential, ❤ but I can easily do without the bordello scene, especially the "spinning fan" effect, as well as the stand-alone dance scene (of which the music gets on my nerves.) 🥴I find it interesting, though, that the lead dancer here (also from the cut "It Hurts Me" scene) is the other choreographer of the Special, Jaime Rogers (featured dancer in 1961's West Side Story), working with his own group of dancers!
