Elvis Presley and Joan Freeman both had birthdays on January 8. The year this movie was released, he was 29 and she was 22. Larry Storch was also born on January 8. He was 41 then.

although the movies and songs were apparently stupid (referring to what Elvis thought and he suffered from all the underwhelming work which he was bound to due to contracts, compared to todays crap and shit on tv etc, this is brilliant and golden, everything Elvis Presley did was masterpiece

Elvis was offered great roles long before the Star is Born was offered cat on the Hot Tin Roof West Side Story the defiant ones Thunder Road those movies with a fit Elvis better than the star is born early Elvis definitely could have played those roles it's a shame Colonel Parker did not allow Elvis to make more great movies but it wasn't like Elvis did not make any great movies Loving You Jailhouse Rock King Creole flaming star wild in the country Kid Galahad all great movies and wonderful performances by Elvis so there's enough evidence there that Elvis did have great acting potential the Western Charro was also good film and this movie roustabout even though it seemed like a formula Musical it had some dramatic Parts in it that showed Elvis was a good actor so we have enough evidence there the show that Elvis was a good actor Elvis should have got rid of the colonel and made his own artistic decisions because he had acting Talent charisma and ability like no other bad Direction but all his early movies that I just mentioned wêre fantastic to say Elvis wasted a lot of his acting potential is so true but to say he did not make any good movies that's not true in fact wild in the country flaming star Kid Galahad Jailhouse Rock we're just as good as the star is born cat on the Hot Tin Roof in West Side Story is more suited for Elvis you should have did those movies along with the defiant ones and Thunder Road so the Star is Born was in no big deal as people make it out to be lose it look films that was offered to him earlier in his prime would have been way better for him thank you have a good day

The problem here is that Elvis’s manager, Tom Parker, knew Elvis’s acting was very average, and any serious roles wouldn’t cut the mustard with the critics, so to avoid a hammering by the press, Parker took the easy way out and decided that Elvis be always cast as a ‘playboy’ type, in an assembly line of ‘so so’ frothy musicals, where his devoted fans could see him sing and be surrounded by a bevy of beautiful women. These formulaic films were financially highly successful and didn’t demand anything in the way of acting skills. Parker was nothing but not pragmatic, so in a sense he was right. Yet Roustabout’ merely emphasised the fact that Elvis was ‘selling his soul’ but as long as his name appeared on top of the theatre marquee, Elvis’s legion of fans would flock to see him, and Parker was proved right! It’s interesting that ‘Roustabout’ featured the great Barbara Stanwyck, who appeared in so many wonderful classic films. I can only think that the reason she agreed to appear in this film was the size of the pay check.

Roustabout was actually a good movie so was wild in the country flaming star Kid Galahad Loving You Jailhouse Rock and King Creole and Charro so Elvis made enough movies to show he was a good actor could have done so much more without the colonel had the potential Charisma and look and ability but poor Direction but the movies I just mentioned they were all good movies and great performances by Elvis thank you

A very average film with uninspiring songs and a limp, corny and frothy story line. By 1964, this film looked and sounded dated, even when it was released! The cinema had moved on from the 50’s, as had the pop music world, but Elvis seemed stuck in a time warp. This movie simply confirmed the fact that Elvis had lost touch with his roots and was merely playing to a shrinking audience of devout fans. ‘Roustabout’ was just another assembly line quickie film, which pushed Elvis further into the ‘wilderness’ of mediocrity!
